Kr vs Canon 550

When I was looking buy a newer body last year I handled the Nikon D7000, as well as trying the K5. The Pentax just felt better on several levels, and although I initially got the K-r, which I'm very happy with, I pulled out the stops to acquire a nearly new K5, which confirmed my early impressions. Both great cameras !

Nope, I have no DSLR yet, just waiting for the latest models to come out so that the price of K5 will drop down to my budget level.

Oso, it's likely that the K-5 is at its pre-replacement stage, so apart from second hand ones it may not drop any further in price.
It may still be possible to get a good deal on a K-r or even the previous K-x, but they are becoming more scarce now.

I have to say my 50D feels every bit as solid as the K-5, it's just a shame you have to turn the lens the wrong way when disconnecting.
I much prefer the output and handling of the Pentax but until they sort out AF performance and give me lenses like the 100-400mm L and MP-E65mm macro then the Canon won't be going anywhere.

Like Mike I have A Canon 50D (well two actually) and have to say handling and usability wise it's in a class of it's own for my tastes - love the lil joystick and the large wheel on the back for changing settings ...it's just great all round. I bought the second one not very long after the first I loved it so much.
I'd be using them a lot more but the ability to pull details out of very dark areas with that sensor in the K5 seems me using that most of the time.

Canon just don't have a camera (sensor) in the crop market to compete with Pentax/Nikon in this respect. I find that rather surprising actually.

I only own Pentax camera's. But Pentax are far from the be all and end all. In fact in the case of auto focus, have a lot to improve on.. If your a sport photographer. Pentax can be very hard work. Bless them...

Although I am bias, the Kr is so much better all round. From feel in the hand, auto focus and image quality it topped the Canon. I think even my old work-horse K200D is better.
The funny thing is, the 550 was my original choice - until I held one in the shop - and I am so glad now that I chose Pentax. The funnier thing is my friend said she wished she had listened to me and bought a Pentax!
Anyone else had the chance to compare the other brand camera they nearly bought to their Pentax?
