Wether it's being discontinued or not I doubt you will ever get a brand new camera that is as good as the K-r for £400 again.

Good point, that man! After all the 'research' and questioning that I have done I am now finding some pleasure in my K-r. I'm glad that I ddn't go for either the Nikon D3100 or the Canon EOS 1100D. It is now my intention to, over the winter, to 'try' to learn how to go beyond the 'auto-pic' mode and then this time next year possibly upgrade to whatever Pentax have to offer at that time.

I can't stress enough my appreciation for all of the assistance that I have received from this forum. Please accept my humble thanks to you all. Kind regards.

The other forum is now head-lining the official demise of the K-r.

Samsung going back to Pentax SR instead of it's own ois system...link... so it begs to reason... given past rumours of Samsungs medium format system... is it possible that rather than pay patent royalties, they worked out a deal to discount sensors for Pentax's evil medium format camera?

Fired many shots. Didn't kill anything.

Apparently the K-r isn't being discontinued

Pentax UK Hi Jonathan,

Thank you for your message. The K-r has not been discontinued, and there are no plans for it to be so.

Many Thanks

This looks like an internet rumour that has just gone a bit nuts, even though the facts are staring you in the face if you look hard enough. I only started taking the rumour seriously when photo rumours reported that Pentax Japan had 'confirmed on Twitter that orders for the K-r will not be accepted after December 9, 2011'. There was a link to the official Twitter statement here:

https://twitter.com/#!/pentax_jp/status/142415564621619200

But I ran the Japanese text through Babelfish and it actually says:

Quote:
End of K-r order color incoming order service approached. As for more desired one ahead of time! By the way, it becomes end at 2011 December 9th
In case anyone missed that, I'll add emphasis:

Quote:

So apparently only new orders for the coloured bodies have been wound down. This makes sense; the coloured bodies are probably much slower sellers.

There is a hint here that a new body is probably on the horizon at least, but it appears that rumours of the Kr's death have been greatly exaggerated!

Yay we can go back to being panicky and doom stricken again! Let's face it, us Pentax users are never happy if we aren't!

But seriously I don't think the fact that B&H has discontinued the Kr means a great deal... Jessops haven't discontinued it, Adorama haven't... Maybe B&H have just decided not to order more stock, or maybe Pentax are supplying other dealers exclusively. Who knows. Who cares!

I'm using my K20D, and I'm happy with it.

With modern technology changing so fast that's it obsolete as soon as you get it home, is it really such an issue?

If your camera does what you want, and performs reliably, why worry be happy!

Only those with unlimited funds, and people like Bill G---s can afford to keep up to date with technology, and do we really want to change our cameras every four weeks?

I think people are concerned this might be some sort of portent of doom for Pentax! We're never quite happy unless we feel Pentax is staring down some sort of abyss....

Yes I agree the doom and gloomists always take a glass half empty standpoint . If you are fortunate enought to own a K5 ..KR or in my case a K100 and enjoy useing it who cares if it's dicontinued ! just make more pictures.... Jeff...BTW Abyss .... great movie..Jeff

Just bought a K-R whether it is to be discontinued now or later, doesn't matter to me. Bought it because it seems a great piece of kit at a great price.. Now needs the user to step up to the mark .. a lot of learning ahead, looking forward to it
