Why all the hand-wringing?
Quite! There is no evidence of Pentax discontinuing the Kr. They will probably only officially discontinue it after the replacement for the Kr comes out, as they push out the last stocks. Then people who want a replacement budget camera can buy the replacement, which will probably perform on par with the K5 by then.

I've got a large quantity of K-r's arriving tomorrow or Monday. I think demand is outstripping supply at the moment!

It would be suicide to discontinue it then

Exactly. Which is why it seemed so bizarre. But turns out it's just b/s. good!

The KR along side the Nikon 3100 are the only choices at this price point- the Canon 1100 d is very cheap and nasty and feels like its made from recycled biscuit wrappers.

Nikon may well struggle to meet demand currently. Pentax should make hay.

Imho, other reliable sources also seem to confirm this.

Possible the kr replacement was ready for production, when Ricoh took over but has been delayed?

The K-5 successor may even not be announced before Photokina 2012 (enough units produced, unlike K-r).

Even if there aren't new models, Ricoh will be keen
to rebrand all the existing stuff and remove all Hoya
references. It's probably a condition of the sale as well.

Didn't the original 'leak' suggest it was the the 'body only' option (ie non lens) that has been deleted. Nice to see Jessops are selling the KR, and its listed at ARGOS too. Recent test reports have also been published in the UK - the main items of concern seem to be underexposure - nothing new there, I run my K-M with plus 0.3 ev with the 'bright' option set most of the time.
As an aside, how can I stop my shutter release button sticking down? - its not a black non stick one like the K-7,K-5 but chrome. I have now shot over 10,000 images - any serious suggestions?

Pentax K r discontinued Pentax K r discontinued

After the Pentax K-r body was listed as discontinued at B&H, today Pentax Japan officially confirmed on Twitter that orders for the K-r will not be accepted after December 9, 2011. It will be interesting to see if Pentax (now owned by Ricoh) will release a replacement during the PMA show in early January 2012.

Currently all Pentax K-r versions are listed as discontinued at B&H except the K-r + 18-55mm lens kit:

BTW Nass, you might find it instructive to contemplate the difference between bullshit and informed speculation.

In this regard, the quote of the day thread in general discussion reminded me of the following from Musashi: “By knowing that which exists, you may know that which does not exist”.
