KP Silver or Black

@Walt - thanks Walt, that is good to know! I know the battery is weaker, and there is no top lcd (but I always forget it is there anyway!) and only 1 sd card slot. I might miss the extra card slot, I always saved RAW to one and jpg to the other.... Did you get a spare battery, was it a 3rd party or original? ....And,,,, was it silver or black

I only have one thing against the KP. It looks like it was thrown together by a committee after a bad night out. There are knobs and buttons everywhere and half of them are in a different position to those on any other Pentax camera. The K1 does the same trick. If I had a pound for every time I've pressed top left for Display Image and cursed because it gives Live View ! Why can't they just be consistent? And when the new one comes out PLEASE CAN WE HAVE A FLIPPY BACK SCREEN?

That's a great set of images for comparison - thank you for the link, Dave. No doubt there is no difference in the capabilities of black and silver versions. However, those photos reinforce my impression that the 'silver' version of the body looks less real and more toy-like, whereas the black one looks more like the serious machine that the KP really is. Also, mixing black and silver bodies and lenses just doesn't look right to me. So, whatever the colour, it is a great camera but I'm happy to have a black KP (bought from SRS at special offer price) with black limited lenses. To each his own.

Yeah, the battery is a lot weaker and is a definite minus, that and the buffer depth. I haven't missed the 2nd slot as I seem to have trouble filling the 64gb in the first and only used it in the K3 as an overflow.
I've got 9 batteries (!!!)... collected over the years of having the Kr and K30. 2 of the batteries are dead now (expro), 2 expro are still going but are probably the weakest of my batteries (not sure when they were bought but well before owning the KP). The hama one from the KR is still good but was always a lower capacity than the original. I have 2 Pentax, they are the best and then a couple of ansmann, which are nearly as good as the Pentax.
These days I also have a usb charger for the batteries and while travelling without frequent access to electrics (Camping) I use a powerbank to charge them. I had problems while on a 3 week camping holiday the first year I had the KP and ran out of batteries.... I tend to get around a days shooting on the good batteries (Pentax and Ansmann) unless I use liveview a lot. My logic is that 2 KP batteries are about the weight and size of one K3 battery so carrying a couple of spares is not much more than carrying a K3 spare (which I always did).
The most annoying thing about the KP is there is no battery warning unless you are in live view or have the status screen always on the rear screen which of course takes battery power to run.... I often get caught out when the battery just dies. However even with this I still preferred it to the K3. AF being so much better and the 3rd wheel helps with ease of use.
I went for black, but I have no preference. Both look pretty good to me.

@Walt - I've decided to go for the black. Just waiting for it to touch £600 (currently at £633 and silver is at £540!). Thanks for info on batteries, I'll grab a couple of Ansmann. And I will also get a 64GB card (was using 2x 32s on the K3).
@David - hehe, I actually like the look of the KP, and the more I look at it on screen, the more I like it. And yes, I'm looking forward to the tilting screen, will be handy. Not really a fan of the swing out and rotate screens as it is always to the side of the camera then. Useful for people who are in front of their camera I suppose! And yes I've noticed the relocation of the Display button, now everytime I'll hit that by accident I'l think of your message!

The tilt screen is so handy. You can put the camera on the ground but even in normal use it's great to not have to slightly stoop to see a flat screen or use the viewfinder. Or you can angle it away from bright reflecting lights. My back says 'thank you' every time I use it.

Silver now £501.04 and black at £585.44... I had said £600 was my biting point for black but I can see in CamelCamelCamel that it touched £556 earlier in January... mmm, it's so annoying now that Amazon won't simply give you back the difference if the price falls, have to go through returning it etc
@David - yes, I'm looking forward to that. Was doing an assignment for my course in new year and for one of the themes the camera was set very low, my knees and back were not happy!!

Still saying £585.44 for me. Can see a used one at £559 from Amazon Warehouse but I'll keep an eye, maybe I'm looking at a cached page or something, thanks Kea.

You are correct.
I looked at the price and missed that it is a used camera.

Both DPreview and Kia of digital Rev fame are promoting Pentax.
DP review with their Pentax week or whatever it is called
AND
Kia at digital revs latest U tube video proclaims he has switched to Pentax, well he does own a PentaxKP,
Also at least in two of his previous videos has worn a Pentax baseball cap.whilst reviewing photo equipment of other brands.
At time of writing this I do no recall if there is an amazon link to the Pentax KP or Pentax.
Anyway this is a nice little promotion and a price discount at the same time may encourage a person to purchase Pentax.
Pentax meets Ricoh meets Marketing and about time.

Woo publicity! I never hear about Pentax anywhere apart from this forum.
And just because so many people contributed to this discussion... I chose black, have ordered the black KP and should have it tomorrow. Thanks all.

.............But then I spotted the silly price on this KP and figured it would also make a nice backup and bring a few new things too!
........
I had the K3 when I bought the KP a couple of years ago. I never used the K3 again and then ended up selling it.... the KP was that good for my use.
