I would have come along...but... Irene and I will have just got back from the Scottish Highlands late the previous evening and I'm hoping to get to the Goths for the first time in two years on the Sunday. She wouldn't be best pleased if I also vanished on the Saturday.

Is it? Oops. I think though an early start on the Saturday morning might not be a very good idea.
However if the Goths are the following week I might go on the Saturday rather than the Sunday.

However, the action from the rut is best early morning. Done and dusted by 11am. Just something to consider for your itinerary. If I am lucky enough to get there at all, I'll make sure I'm there for dawn.

Agreed that early morning is best but I have seen them rutting at Studley as late as 3-4pm. My main reason for including Studley was for the autumn scenery around the lake and down the river - and to be close to Fountains Abbey for the evening session - seeing any rutting would be a bonus.
That said - no reason why Studley couldn't be switched to the morning if that was preferred.

Knaresborough, North Yorks
Knaresborough - the autumn colors are now starting to present themselves around the castle and river.
Studley Royal Deer Park - we are now entering rutting season and the trees and lake area will be spectacular.
Fountain's Abbey - are holding evening events and illuminating the abbey on Saturday's throughout October. See here: link
For those of you who don't know the area - Knaresborough is well worth a visit for a couple of hours and is approximately 10 miles from Studley Royal and Fountain's Abbey (which are next to each other).
So - suggested meet:
Saturday October 25th
Knaresborough - late morning/ lunch time
Studley Royal - mid afternoon
Fountain's Abbey - early evening
Anybody interested?
Carl
