Kit Lens vs Flektogon

Hello I was wondering if anyone has a comparison if these lenses. I know the Zeiss 35mm 2.4 Flektogon is old compared to the 18-55 DA II, however would it be a worthwhile purchase?

I currently use the kit lens for model shoots but I would like something a little sharper with around f2-8 as I already have the SMC 50mm 1.7 and I love that for portraits however I find it is just a little too long, so I end up using the kit lens.

Nick, how much are they asking for the Zeiss?
The only reason is that there is an alternative, and that is the Pentax Da-35mm F2.4 AL. It is the cheapest new prime on sale, and is fantastic.
Mind you Zeiss lenses are indeed excellent, yet don't have AF.

If my old M42 CZ-Jena 50mm F2.8 tessar is anything to go by, the 35mm will be great.

Personally, if the Zeiss 35mm is in your budget, and you don't mind no AF, just get it. As 35mm on APS-C is great fun and usable. Plus the value of the lens is not going to go down, and if AF is your thing, you can get the Pentax 35mm at a later date.
Whatever happens, the 35mm prime will be better than the kit lens.

Hope this helps.

I would love the 35mm 2.4 as someone else at the photography club I attend has it...However from making this post to this moment in time I managed to be naughty and bought a nice 28mm super Takumar for very cheap, so I'll be able to see if I like working with this focal length on a prime.

If you don't mind me asking, how do you find the 50mm Tessar in relation to the Pentax 50mm 1.7 M if you have tried that?

Cheers !

I'm sure you will 35mm is nice but a tad wider is nicer in my opinion for general purpose. Should also work well for full body portraits.
