Looking at buying a new SDHC card & the "class" ratings still doesn't seem to make comparison clear cut.

The Kingston Class 6 8gb SDHC is noticeably cheaper then the Sandisk equivalent, the question is though are card speeds the same ?

thanks

Thanks for the links, very helpful - the Kingston cards don't seem to perform at the same speeds as Sandisk

Looking through the test results what does suprise me is the Dane-elec performance, it's a cheap card which seems to offer very good performance, not really heard of them though, has anyone else ?

Hi Simon, Dane Elec have been around for years and are often rated highly. Don't forget that transfer speeds are also effected by the card reader.

I reckon this Card+Reader deal is good at the moment:

Thanks for the link Vic,

Looks a good deal - regarding transfer speed I'm only really looking at "in-camera".

www.picstop.co.uk list the read and write speeds of all the cards they sell
I recently bought a Sandisk Extreme III 4Gb SDHC - it came with a little USB card reader which was good as I found out that all my SD card readers won't do SDHC.
But the card reader really, really flies

If you're only interested in transferring photos via the camera USB connection, I don't think a fast SD card will make much difference as the card speed is not the bottleneck in this situation.

With a fast external card reader, a fast SD card can really shine.

I suspect what he means is that he doesn't care how long it takes the camera to download to his PC when he gets home, it's the buffer-to-card time while shooting which matters.

I tend to agree.

I have a Dane-Elec 80x 1GB card for my *istDL2 and it's been very quick and reliable over the years. I haven't used anyones SDHC cards, but Dane-Elec are a brand I would be willing to use again.
you don't have to be mad to post here

but it does help

Exactly, I've got plenty of time on my hands at home - it's in the field where I want the speed.

Think I'll be going with the Sandisk Extreme III

thanks
