Nice shot, shame about the light but you have to take what ever opportunity you get with these little chaps,well done.

Lovely shot indeed (I take it was with the DA*300 ?) - couldn't the eye area be selectively lightened in PP ?

Used the Sigma 50-500 for this,Probably could play with the eye area if I new how (selective?)

OK let me see.
1. Curves contrast auto adjustment (it wasn't much but lightened the whole shot a fraction). You could probably achieve the same in LR or use the exposure adjustment.
2. Used the Dodge brush (I'm sure LR must have one of these) to lighten the head.
3. Used the selective sharpen brush to sharpen the whole bird.
You can't actually tell so much from those small pics but the difference is actually quite a lot and the whole eye area is clearly visible.

The background is a gravel road. I would have liked to get more light in the eye but not to be.
