K7 vs K5 ?

I have a K7 and thinking of buying K5 but not too sure if the difference warrants spending out.. try to keep the answer simple please

When is the VAT increase due?

Do you find yourself yearning for a faster frame rate, better higher ISO performance, larger image files, greater dynamic range?

If so, get yourself a K-5. If not, stick with the K-7 and see what comes out in 2011/2012.

OK Dan thanks .. That is exactly the type of info I wanted.. I love my K7 but if the K5 is that much better then I'll have to get one.. Going to SRS site to see what deals are around..

Also wouldn't mind a little more feedback before committing to spending the next six months in a shed.

On a £1000 spend the difference is £25, the price will drop by more than that after Christmas anyway.

With the cashback action you now have quite a price drop, I think it might take a while for the camera to be below the price it is now with the cashback.

I think the question should be "needing" not "yearning"

We all yearn for the "next best thing|", whether or not we actually need it is debateable

I didn't necessarily say it was better for you, only you can answer that! Those are some of the improvements over the K-7, but if they won't make much difference to you, then wait. I'm getting one soon, but then I've just got a K10D, so the difference is far greater. If I'd got a K-7 I'd have a very tough job justifying the outlay, I think.

My concern about the price is that it may be hiked up now to be able to give a "NO VAT INCREASE" deal in January and keep it the same price which means I am either paying £25 more for it now or paying the same in January if that makes sense?? . I think many businesses will be doing something along those lines .. People are wide open to several clever business schemes at the moment. And I am a sceptic by nature

Fair point Howard. I was thinking of 'yearning' as in when taking shots, feeling that something was lacking.

I tried out the K-5 when on my way to Clacton to give a talk. Having marvelled at the frame rate, speed of autofocus, high ISO performance etc, I then went and stood on Clacton beach with my K10D taking 10 second exposures at ISO 100. It's very easy to talk yourself out of buying something like this, when you realise 95% of the stuff you do won't use the features it has...

With regard to the initial post, If you need to ask others stay with what you have. Howard I needed and yearned so I now have a K5. What I will say is that the K5 is very different to the K7. I will however use both my K7 & K5 and I personally enjoy them both. The K5 will just enable me to move on photographically from where the K7 took me.

But if you buy now the camera store will get the £25 and not the government and you would have the camera now and not over 2 months

I doubt the price would drop that much beginning next year so that you can get it cheaper.
Although the question is how long do you need to wait for Pentax to give the money back

I cannot say I yearn for the camera and whether I need it is what I hope to find out by asking people like yourself .. I tend to have to take photos in fairly low light conditions trying to get photos of birds in the undergrowth or in woods so if I can increase the ISO and shutterspeed with less noise than the K7 it would be a help just for a starter.(Not that the K7 is bad just I would like better)

I think you have answered your own question. The K5 excels in low noise at high ISO, The increased frame rate is also a plus, together with the updated focusing. From what i have experienced the sensor is streets ahead of the K7s not just in terms of noise and high ISO, the colour rendition seems slightly different as well. If you can afford a K5 I would really recommend one. Hope this provides some answers.
