K7 and AF-540 FGZ

I've been photographing these two prized items a lot recently as these images are illustrating a large scale Guide that I am preparing ('The Pentax Digital Camera Flash Lighting System') .... this has been in the pipeline for a long time now, but is nearly complete.

Apart from different angles of the hotshoe mounted combination I have taken many images of the control panels for specific explanations, close ups of the switches and panels, as well as the flashgun off-camera with a softbox and umbrella.

I've enjoyed taking the images, and even though they are small for the purposes of display within text, I thought I'd put them up here for your interest, and a record of the camera and flash models .....

I think the K7 and the flash look great together, and the images are supporting the guide a lot. You should very soon be able to see them in their intended context.

Some really excellent illustrations there.

Would they qualify as selfies?

Great stuff Nige... Please let us know when we can get hold of the completed works. I would be truly interested, As an owner of the K7 and 540. I have struggled with the combination it has to be said. Though I'm certainly not ruling out user error... Well done..

Thankyou Daron, Peter and Stuart ..... The images are an important component in making the guide more involving and keeping focus on the process being covered. And I hope that for once it will be refreshing to read a 'book' (its not quite a book ) that showcases our lovely Pentax equipment ... Lets face it, almost all the resources out there are littered with images of Nikon and Canon gear, and it's their flash system that's being discussed, not ours!

I am not sure exactly what the ' distribution channels' will be for the guide just yet ... It probably won't end up in Waterstones, but I do hope to have it available as a download and of course for viewing and commenting on the forum. Once its complete I'll ask about how best to do this.

Algi, thanks also .... Selfies? Well, I've avoided the usual flash formulas and calculations we find in most flash guides, but there is one physical law that may apply here: K7 ➕ Flash ❌ Nigel equals one happy PentaxUser all round, so I'd be delighted to be depicted as a handsome Pentax camera/flash combo!

Nice one, Nigel.

I've habitually not been a flash user, preferring natural light. But who knows, maybe, one day...

Thanks Martyn .... Yes, I've heard about that 'natural light' phenomenon, very popular so I believe

I hope the flash guide might encourage and enthuse Pentax shooters to have a fresh look at the Pentax flash offerings and what options there are within the dedicated system to get better control. I get rather tired of seeing all those flash books full of pictures of Nikon and Canon gear, and those systems terminologies. I wanted to balance things up with my guide by populating it with tempting imagery showing tasty Pentax equipment!

Thanks to all who have been supportive and encouraged me to complete the guide ...I do hope to have it available in some form very soon.

Well, thank you very much .... Hmm maybe I should give Waterstones a call after all ...
Maybe they'll put my flash guide up there on the shelf right next to a book of Ken Rockwell Pentax reviews

I shot these 'illustrations' on a black wooden bookcase, ironically with only natural light! I was going for the stylish look .... I was amazed that with the black background and mainly black subject, I was using mostly between -2.0 and - 2.7 stops of compensation! Certainly helped me with my handheld shutter speeds.

The close ups of the flash control panels were shot on the K7 with f35-70 macro, using mirror up and remote control ... Just sitting on a table. Because the images are to be printed quite small, I set jpeg mode at 6mp ... Plenty really. I was able to tweak the jpeg custom settings right there to match up the colours and boost contrast.
