K7, should I wait ?

Well, I'm about to upgrade from K10 to K7 (another camera).

Where "another camera" could be the KX, I'm really happy with my weather seal. BUT I hate the iso-performance of my K10, (rarely go beyond ISO 400).

So higher ISO-performance means A LOT to me, but so does weather seal (and the rest).

SO, do you think there, in any distant future will be a upgrade on the ISO performance on the K7 ?

Impossible to say really. Have you tried the noise reduction in the new Lightroom 3 beta 2 (available for testing as a free download)? I have been venturing higher than ISO 400 on my K20D lately because I am impressed with the noise reduction in the new version of Lightroom (it was hopeless in v. 1.4).

Best wishes, Kris.

If high ISO is important, I'm not sure the K-7 would necessarily satisfy you. In decent light, I would venture up to around ISO1600 with it (if I had no option), but in poor light I try and keep to a max of 640 or 800 at a pinch. The K20D was a step up from the K10D (although a step back at ISO100), and the K-7 probably has similar levels of noise to the K20D, but handled differently (more hands off approach to luminance).

That said, as Kris noted above, I've seen a thread in DePressing Review where somebody ran an Imaging Resource ISO3200 shot from the K-7 through the latest version of Lightroom, and compared it to the Nikon D300s. The K-7 compared very favourably, so perhaps Lightroom may be the answer. Would be worth trying it with some images from the K10D to see if it makes a difference?

i was in the same dilema, i went with the k-x and am really happy with it, my intention is/was to wait a year or so and see what else come out so for now the upgrade was the k-x

hmm, and then have two like the sound of that, lol

When do Pentax "normally" announce new cameras and the like ? Isn't there a time each year, like the car manufactures, where they announce new stuff ? ...

I think there comes a new model around 2 to 2 1/2 year after the old one so it could be at the end of this year or the beginning of the next.

New models will be announced by/at Photokina, probably not replacing K-x or K-7.

well, been reading around the interwebs AND talking with the miss's.

So all in all I thought I could wait till after Photokina, and then some... (the stuff anounced needs to hit the stores )

So having to wait probably a year, we'we decided to buy the k-x and then sell it when they anounce a new.. HURRAY

I generally don't like the idea of buying (read: K-7) something that I already feel is a bit outdated... (I know it isn't, but knowing that I can get a better ISO performance in another pentax).

Depends, if you mean the K-X then that isn't true for the lower ISO and if you mean the K10D, the k7 is better at higher ISO.

Well, I mean, k-x has better performance at high iso (800+) than K10D and K-7 ?

I kinda assumed that they all were approx equal at low iso (100-400'ish) ?

Not fully right the K10D is a CCD sensor, its more uniform and has a wider dynamic range then the CMOS sensors therefore it's hard too beat at the lower ISO.
As for the K7 vs the KX, the KX sensor produce quite some moiré and demosaicing artefacts while the K-7 is cleaner and it also has more pixels, therefore with the lower ISO where the noise is low these play a part how clean the photo looks and that's why the k-7 is better.

At higher ISO the K-X is surely one of the best camera's though.

Rumour has it that the K-x is better at higher ISOs than the K7 but the K7 trumps it at lower ISOs. As I have neither I cannot deny or confirm the rumour.
