K5iis Mirror partial reflex

After a decade and 6 DSLRs including DL, K10, 2xK7, K5 and iis I finally have a problem. Lucky? 4100 actuations and pretty mint condition but since yesterday the mirror only partially retracts from its rest position. Has anyone experience of this and the likely cost of repair - it's well out of warranty.

cheers for any help

I would try a factory reset in the menus, updating to the latest firmware and using a new battery. Make sure the battery is OK first before doing any upgrades, just maybe it's reached the end of its life?

Thanks John - I was already on V1.07. Tried the reset and fresh battery - no change but worth considering of course.

cheers

Cleaning lens and body mount contacts with a soft dry cloth is another possibility, just in case the contact has been partially lost.

Other than that, back to JPS for a repair quote i think. I would suggest joining Pentax User Plus first, then you can download the form from this site for a 20% discount on JPS servicing.
Best regards, John

You could try the sensor cleaning mode if that fails it looks like you have a serious problem. My K10 failed a couple of months ago, you can hear the motor straining to lift the mirror in the above mode.

What do you know...I tried sensor clean and it seems to have cleared it, at least for now. Here's hoping )

4100 actuations

Is that number correct? Four thousand one hundred ?!?

Yes, 4100. Why do you ask?
