I found, by accident, that when I put in a used SD card into my then new camera (K10D) that the sequence started from the last number on the card +1
Maybe, just maybe, the same will happen

One thing to note is that the shutter count (as shown by Photome) insists on displaying the elevated count. Possibly a problem when you come to sell the camera

If you want it to start at a specific number, create an image with that number minus 1.
I would suggest a bit of leeway ... if your K7 was at say 3980 start up at 5000 so if you use the K7 for anything you will still retain non-duplication of numbers.

Yup, that's the way I have done it for all cameras that have this option, K52SXXXX.PEF for sRGB and _K52XXXX for Adobe RGB files.

I set up a different file name. Don't want to mess with the actuations count. Thanks all. Now to try some black cat in a coal hole photography, and get the k7 packed up for eBay.

I'm thrilled with the high-ISO noise compared to the K7, and CS4 copes just find with with it's DNG files. I could see from the small JPGs I shot alongside the RAWs that they can clean up very well.
