K511s Live Vive View Screen Extension

Hi All,

The title probably doesn't explain what I'd like to do properly

Basically I want to be able to stick a K511s on a 4m mast and be able to see what I'm going to get shot wise probably in live view, drop the mast, switch off Live View raise the mast to the same position and take the shot.

The remote trigger will work on a normal 2.5mm jack extension, but how can I be able to see what the camera see's before taking the shot, not able to climb the mast, I do remember seeing in camera magazines a while ago now a gadget that I think plugged into the 2.5mm trigger release socked with a screen, not sure if it worked from live View or from the screen review after taking the image, think it began with a " Z " but cant remember the name of the gadget.

Have tried goggling various phrases etc. to try and see if its still available, don't wish to spend a vast sum getting this to work, its not worth it, but if it can be done reasonably cheaply ( sun £100 ) then I'll give it a go. I also have a Samsung phone and tablet if someone on PU has a suggestion using these.

Appreciate any assistance or links available please
Chris

I use Zigview with a K-5, but I've only got a 2M monopod. Keep an eye on ebay. Should be under £100. Rechargeable batteries are bog standard about £6.

It works well and can also be used as a small fixed focus camera without the K5.

Most of the accs. are universal apart from the eyepiece. They are only about £5 for the Pentax one, but not much use without it.

Also sold under Seculine and Kaiser branding.

Or sell the K-5 and buy a K-3 with Flu card / other camera with wifi capabilities.

You can see what you're doing on your phone / tablet screen and use a cable remote to fire away!

The Toshiba Flash air card will allow you to download shots wirelessly from any camera that takes SD cards. I have two. They work well. You'll be able to raise the camera, trigger it remotely using a Pentax remote, then view the results on a smartphone app.

Thanks all for the responses, I like the idea of using live view, although after a lengthy web search this afternoon, the zigview looks like it's discontinued and difficult to come across, I have an early wireless sd card, but not had that much success with it and haven't used it for a while now.

Ebay is really the only chance for Zigview.

The K-3 + iPhone sounds good although you might need extra hands.

A field monitor such as this would do what you are asking http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/VILTROX-DC-70-7-HD-1024-600-Video-Field-Monitor-HDMI-A... liked with an HDMI cable of sufficient length.

I've used live view with K3 + FluCard on top of a 2m monopod. It's pretty effective, but I found that (in the field) it hammered my iPhone battery. I would definitely recommend a battery pack for the phone/tablet!

Also be aware that the Flucard takes ages to boot. It's about 20 or 30s (IIRC) from turning on the camera until being able to connect. It's a pain that this happens each time the camera goes to sleep

...so having built in WiFi in the K1 looks a much better option to me

Thanks Phillip, that looks ideal, presume if it helps with video, does it show whatever the camera is pointing at when focused or only what's being recorded ?

I have the Calumet version, but I assume they are all much the same. I have only used mine for still photography. It shows exactly the same information that would be on the camera rear screen, either live view or review - in fact when it is connected it becomes the rear screen, the one on the camera goes blank. Just the same as if you connect your camera to a television with an HDMI cable.
