A lot of loupe's only cover 35mm negs. Some do 6x7 but they are expensive.
The 5x magnifier off an old 6x6 camera should be OK.

the pentax ones are huge, big enough to use with 645 slides...

Fired many shots. Didn't kill anything.

I disagree based on practice; focus gets far more critical with Video because you regularly shoot as wide as the lens will go, meaning you have a front of eye in focus and not the back.
With wider focus length you often have less magnification so more DOF right???I disagree based on practice; focus gets far more critical with Video because you regularly shoot as wide as the lens will go, meaning you have a front of eye in focus and not the back.
Also since the video is a dynamic image (moving) you can't see the finer details so it appears faster sharp then with stills.

I doubt if they will cover 6x7? I've got a Schneider one that does 35mm, but no bigger. Mamiya did some good ones for 6x7. Here's a bit of a review link

doesn't necessarily work like that as clearly as you'd think. See http://www.youtube.com/fsecurenews --> the root video is shot with a 7D and 17-55/2.8. I'm sure f4 is normally in use. bretti_kivi wrote:

You mean the close up shot at the 15 second mark?
DOF depends largely on the magnification not so much the focal length like most think, so if you've 1:1 magnification the DOF is almost just as great with a 50mm lens as with a 200mm lens.
The DOF can even be wider with the 200mm lens as with the 50mm lens depending on other lens characteristic.
But the first part of the video looks quite well in focus to my eyes.

it's a canon 17-55, no close focus, so there's nowhere near 1:1; max magnification according to the stats is 0,17.

I don't mean it that way ^^;
If you fill the frame the same with a 70-200 lens for example you will get the same DOF, it has very little to do with the focal length but everything with the magnification.

just got up...
but that looks like a reasonanble alternative.
I am keeping my eyes open for a Pentax loupe... they had one the size of a small glass, before... I'm thinking if memory serves me correct, it will fit perfectly into a rubber plumbing pipe fitting which could then be bungie strapped onto the lcd of the camera.
anybody know if the loupe or even better the zoom loupe is still available?
