K5 Shutter count

Just picked up my new K5 and fired off a few test pictures. I was bit surprised because the first picture came out with an image number of IMPG3479. All of the previous cameras I’ve had have started at 0001 or thereabouts, so my obvious reaction was I’ve been sold a refurbed camera!

I’ve downloaded PhotoMe and looked at the meta data f an image and teh shutter count is showing 12 and the in the meta data and its showing 12.

Has anyone else had this or have a plausible explanation to put my mind at rest?

Thanks
Nick

Most likely you had inserted a SD card with existing images on it. The camera will pick up with the highest number found.

Is this new behavior? I do not recall that happening and lots of people seem to be asking now.
Maybe just a lot of users upgrading by now??

Go by the Photome number, that is correct.

As amoringello suggested .. you have use an old card from another camera or the shop you bought it from have when testing it.

Always format a card in the camera before starting to use it.

Thanks all for the help, I thought it was something I must have done.

What fooled me was that I put in a card which had been used in a Samsung camera, with a totally different file number structure and it seems to have picked that up. I then formatted the card and the camera continued with the numbering from the card.

Best

I put my file counter back to zero after the initial day or two of familiarisation and test shots.

Just set it via the menu (last item on Memory section) to start a new count on a new card; then while the same folder is in use reset it to an accumulative count. Page 301 of the manual. Worked for me.
