K5 Replacement/Equivalant

I'm interested to know what would be todays K5 replacement or equivelant.

It depends

It should be the K3 MkIII as this has the same quality of build and the most up to date specifications (AF, ISO settings, etc) - the line was K7, K5, K5II, K5IIs K3, K3II, K3III

But you could take the view that the entry level DSLR's are significantly more advanced than the K5 and share some/many of the features of the higher line - so in this case it would be the KF (or K70 if you can still find one).

As I said, it depends - mainly on what you want from a DSLR. You might even consider a second hand K3 or K3II if you want a step up with out breaking the bank - or you could take the view that the K5 is still a well made and very capable camera I moved over to a K1 MkII (mainly because I wanted Full Frame) but I still have 2 K5IIs bodies that get used every now and then

Only the K5ii and the K3 have built in flash. Are they really worth the upgrade.

I have a KF. I would highly recommend this camera. Great features, handles all current lenses and older ones. The usual IBIS, weather sealing, great viewfinder, easy to set up for any kind of photography desired. I love the tilt/rotate LCD screen that I have enjoyed with my K-S2.

Yes, I would think a K3 would be worth the upgrade. An increase in pixel count and a much more recent camera that will the faster in operation should be helpful.

I suppose the other option is for better glass, that said it would probably mean a complete overhaul on my lenses, which I’m quite happy with the focal range I have. Primes are going to be more expensive, and I’ll probably need to carry more.

Can anyone tell me what the going rate is for a K5 with shutter count of just over 1400 in excellent condition. MPB are offering £115 on a trade for K3 at £354.

Go to E bay. click on 'advanced' to the right of the general search box. Enter Pentax K5, scroll down. click 'sold items', scroll down, click 'search'. You'll get the price of every one sold in recent months. ......... I just did. £115 is too cheap. They are skinning you.

Park Cameras buy used kit, as does SRS, who will also sell on commission for you.

Don't overlook eBays fees.

I try not to buy or sell anymore on eBay because of the fees and items being overpriced. I thought the price for the K3 at MPB was a good price especially with 6 months warranty. In excellent condition with all original packaging, 12,105 shutter count.
If I do sell my K5 then it will be privately.

There's a lot to be said for having two cameras. In particular there's less chance of missing that great but fleeting opportunity if each is fitted with a complementary lens. For example, a long lens on one, wide angle on the other. Or macro lens on one, long lens on the other. It's worked for me on holidays ('bird' lens on one, landscape lens on other) and in the garden (macro lens on one for bugs and bees, long lens on other for butterflies and birds). And now the dark evenings have arrived I'll soon be setting up my desktop macro rig with K3 (original) festooned with cables and attached to focus racks while the K3iii is the 'carry around' camera for everything else.

You could be right, upgrading the camera may not be the best option. I was looking at the K3 mainly for the reason others have mentioned. As said earlier new glass may be a better option. I like the focal range of what I already have, so how could I make things better without being overloaded. What advantage if any would new glass be over a K3 using existing lenses. I'm not into wildlife, action or portraits. mainly interested in lanscapes, anything a bit querky also thinking of street photography.

In which case your sign-off list of lenses is incomplete. You need the DA10-17mm fisheye. Definitely quirky. And a very good lens .
