A sad day for me...

Thanks for letting us know - I wonder how many of us will now be doing that offline backup we've been putting off for too long...

Gotta K-3iii now, had a K-S2, K50 and so suffering from a relapse and so buying digital camera kit.
Previous addiction has resulted in using Zeniths, Yashicamat, Chinons, Minoltas, Samsungs, Fujis, Cosina, Kodak, Lumix, Canon, Nikon and Pentax etc etc - have tried most makes in the past 50 years. Love cameras - love taking photos even more
From what I have read, there is very little chance of recovering the images. It's more my personal photos that I have lost, that is upsetting the most. All the other photographs and stuff can be reshot. Plus I have some of it on my phone and on here....
I am pretty ambivalent towards the human race because of greed.... this episode has plummeted that view even further.
Greed is such a dusgusting trait in humanity....
It's myback up drive that's been infected...
At the beginning there was nothing... which exploded
It's a fact of life I'm afraid that we appear to be living in the era of the parasite. There are those who have neither soul nor conscience and see everyone as game and fair prey.
I'm always beating the bush about the first three rules of computing; Backup... Backup...Backup... (Same rules for your precious photographs) Keep a separate computer that can be used as a backup PC for your important personal files, photo's etc and more importantly, keep it OFF LINE You're generally only at risk when connected to the internet or to a network that's connected to the internet.
Don't throw away your infected drive yet as the future may provide a solution to its recovery.
A sad day indeed for you Spad and a sad tale but a warning to others.
Best wishes to you.
(Compulsive Obsessive Lens Buying Addiction Syndrome)
What you need are lenses, more lenses, bigger lenses, better lenses, faster lenses, vintage lenses and when you have these, your pictures will be perfect!

Quite an interesting few pages; I have saved them but hope I will never need the hassle of removing ransomware.
By chance - mainly because I am concerned about the reliability of the hard drive in my nine year old Dell, and partly to try to delete a lot of old .jpg files, I recently copied the whole of my 'My Pictures' folder (Windows 7) to a 64 GB USB stick. They should be safe there, as it will seldom be plugged into my desktop.
So sorry to read of your problem Spad. I hope you can find some way of recovering the images.
