K5 or K30

spent the last half hour looking at his pictures.. real beauties too !

ubt his lenses cost more than what i can afford for my kit...

anyways, which would be better : the 18-55 and 50-200 wr kit (200 mm allows for aicraft shots) or the 18-135 mm zoom and later on another telelens for aircrafts ?

If you are restricted to slower lenses then the K-5 is better for aircraft shots (prop planes and helicopters anyway) purely because of the inbuilt shake reduction. With those type of aircraft you need a slow shutter speed (1/250th or slower) to get decent propeller blur ... easy with the Pentax due to SR, not so much with the Nikon (although not impossible).





K-5 does ok on jets as well

I was just looking at the dxo to see if I shouldn't wait for the K30 (nice/shiny/new) but as the sensor is the same as the k01, the K5's still better.

Another question for you : does the k5 have back/front focus issues ? missing the focus point on a jet then going back and forth ? my d5k sure does : when the target is far I have to focus first on the horizon then on the intended target, then the AF-C kicks in.

Is the AF fast ? does it keep focus easily on jets ?

Some lenses may have front or back focus issues and it even varies from copy to copy, but the K5 will allow you to fine tune the focus for up to 20 lenses and will remember the adjustment each time that particular lens is attached.

does the manual explain how to do that, or maybe on this forum ?

It is explained in the manual.

I was set on buying the K5, but unsure whether to wait to see if the K5 replacement had 'focus peaking'.... I use manual lenses a lot, and think focus peaking would be a real benefit. I had consigned myself to a long wait, even if the K5 replacement did have this feature, as I couldn't afford to be an early adopter.

But then out comes the K30, with most of the benefits of the K5 plus the focus peaking feature - and undercuts it on price as well! I ought to be pleased, but I do prefer the K7/5 body style. Goes well with K lenses and Ltds.

but if you factor in the 80 euros rebate on the k5, it should be cheaper than the k30 with the same lens

Please don't post Nikon pictures, there's a Pentax only policy here. It's possible a few images escape, but not when you draw attention to them.

I'll get the 55-300 pentax at a later date.
