According to Page 265 of my K5 manual I should be able to process images with any one of 18 digital filters. When I look on the camera I only see 8 options under digital filters. Can anyone tell me where the rest are? I was specifically looking for the Monochrome one for this week's competition.

Frankie - I don't own a K5, but I'm guessing that you can access the others by using the "down-arrow" on the four-way controller when you are in the filters mode.

Thanks for the suggestion Steven, but the down arrow just gives you additional paramaters for the 8; not the missing 10.

Have you tried the left/right arrows??

The left/right arrows take you through the 8 and the up/down arrows take you through the parameters.

I do know that on my Kr, depending on the initial settings selected on the top dial, I'm unable to access certain parameters - have you tried changing the shooting mode to see if that makes any difference, Frankie?

Silly me, I've found them - should have read the manual properly. I was in the wrong top menu, and you were right Steven. When you're in the correct area then the down arrow gives you them all.

Dwight - have a look in your camera's manual. It'll tell you if you have digital filters, or not. Note that these filters are electronic (programmed into the firmware inside the camera) as opposed to physical (screw-in/cokin type) filters.

Is monochrome the same as black and white as I also have a monochrome comp next year.

I am slightly confused as one judge told a couple of members to go and shoot black and white with there DSLR's. What is the difference between setting your camera to B&W and taking a colour picture and converting later

Johnboy - yes, monochrome is the same as b/w.

Thanks everyone as I mentioned I don't have the camera and was wondering if worth while to upgrade I work in the post-production world not inside the toy.

Have a great nite / morning,

Dwight

Monochrome is a word often used to describe B&W photography but in actual fact a picture made up of varying shades of any one colour is really a monochrome image, Mono=single Chrome=colour, so an image could consist of varying shades of red and still be Monochrome.

B&W is also a misnomer as black is the total absence of light and white is all colours of the visible spectrum mixed together, plus it doesn't describe all the shades of grey in-between, perhaps the digital darkroom has the best idea by refering to it as Greyscale
