Quite right Mark, I've moved it.

I wonder if the high demand for the K-5 caused the quality control to drop off more than usual. Perhaps quality checkers were put on the production line to help meet production demands and consequently some issues were missed? It resulted in a frustrating problem that the OP had to cope with on holiday - isn't it always the way.

Andrew - there are thousands and thousands of people who are extremely happy with their K-5 and have never had a problem with them. People with problems will report them here and on other forums, people who have no problems don't post to say their camera is perfect.
I can't say the same for the Tamron lens I bought alongside it instead of a kit lens though. The zoom ring broke and I had to send it back for repair under the warranty which took about two and a half weeks IIRC. Would still recommend the lens though - it's unbeatable for the price. You could buy two of them for the same price as one Pentax DA* 16-50 - which also has known QC issues.
Anyway, I digress. Not sure why this thread is in the film cameras forum, though. :
