Conclusion - brilliant for stills, well ahead of competitors, behind the pace on video features.

I've been using a K30 since July alongside the K5 and I can't distinguish between them in image quality. Its a lovely camera to use with comfortable ergonomics, just like other Pentaxes.
The review's most serious criticism is about its video performance and that doesn't bother me as I never shoot video.
I agree about its short battery life span, it needs recharging much more often than the K5 but I've yet to run out of steam on a lengthy shoot.
It doesn't have a connection for a grip but again that doesn't affect me as I like to keep my camera gear as light as possible and have never used grips.

It is a good review, in fact it seems better than those with a Gold Award from the "stills" point of view. It did seem to be almost begrudging in its high praise and seemed almost relieved that it could use the poor video to keep it from a Gold Award!

It is a good review.
I'm not a video user but even the humble Kr impressed me when I shot a video of the kids playing, I used a Rikenon 50mm F2 and it seemed fine to me.
It just seems sad that so many are more into the bragging rights of their particular make/model than their actual photography. I suspect that has always been the case though!

It seems to be the best camera in it's category, especially if (like myself and many others) you are not looking for DSLR video.
