Having NO IR REMOTE when Nikon have started including Bluetooth Remotes I would say the camera was aimed at the Kodak Instamatic User

Possibly they hope to start selling 5-10M Wired Remote Cables

Ask Nikon users how good their wireless connection is! Pentax use wifi with the image synch app which in my experience works pretty well.

Have you not seen how small and pocketable the Pentax Remote F is compared with a smart phone...... Not to mention the difference in price

http://www.ricoh-imaging.co.uk/en/remote-controls/group/262/body/overview/Remote...

I already use a Seculine high power remote on the K-5. For the KP I expect the Canon receiver would work, but the camera would have to have the waterproof cover open.

Good for 50M. All the transmitters are the same. Mine's for a Nikon.

Nah, sorry John, I think it has 'Scene Modes' on the dial. That brings it back out of the 'flagship' category, don't you think ?

These days I think model and range classifications are less about the actual feature list (with so much more 'high end' stuff loaded into each new release), and more about the designers own perceived target end user .

there is one thing for certan and that is that the kp is the camera for the person that wants and likes that camera and if you think about it its the same with any camera of any brand

It looks like the KP is aimed at the mirrorless user, the Fuji x-pro2, xt-2 and old em2 are all over £1000. New cameras seemed to be released at very high prices and takes a year or so to come down in price. I bought my KP for £1099 and my K3ii for £620, using both I would say the K3ii is the better value for money.

The model dial on the kp is the same as the K1 and K3 (Buth with more user modes), this can be seen clearly on the many photos of the KP on the web. I think Jhon is correct that this is a hgher end camera it share much more features such as chasis, autofocus, metering and user interface with the higher end models like the k3 and k1 than it does with the mid range models such as the K70

Pentax have been clear that his is not a replacment for the K3 and is instead a new more compact line (that most Likley fits between the K3 and the K70) which should give some indication to the sort of price we can expect the K3 sucessor to be.

Ah, thanks for correcting that! I should have checked more thoroughly. But, there you go, that proves the point then that it IS a flagship category camera. Scene modes has long been my own defining feature for the 'high end' category, in terms of the sort of user the designers expect to attract to the model. So we appear to now have two aps-c' flagship' camera types, both aimed at the more experienced and knowledgable enthusiast.

Brexit, collapse of the pound all are factors here, you have to remember that the KP is the first release after all of that and so the first that the "buy in price" has been affected by the above, K3's and even k1's, were bought in pre collapse. The replacement for the K3 II will slot right in the middle between the K1 and the KP at around £1400, still some £300 cheaper than the list price of the D500 and 7D II at release, it'll have to have a high resolution flippy screen, 4K video for Richard (otherwise I think he will spontaeneously combust!) 1/8000th sec top shutter speed, big buffer and two card slots and a higher frame rate and may likely adopt the K1 Autofocus sensor layout plus all the fancy multiple exposure modes etc from the KP. However, unless things change economy wise pretty soon, I'm afraid the K3 II is the last of the big value "Pro" bodies. The price hikes right across the industry are gut wrenching, I'm not going to buy an X-T2 myself as I just won't spend £1400 on APSC, If I can get a good deal soonish on the KP (Are you listening in Watford Chris?), I may switch as I also think that £800 for an X-T20 that is not weather sealed is poor value also, I live in Cumbria and weather sealing is a must have feature for me! I can spend £2200 on two KP's and have two weather sealed bodies or £2200 on an X-T2 and an X-T20 and have only one weather sealed body, lenses are the problem for me, all the Fuji ones are good, I'll need to research lenses thoroughly again, as I'm not too up on Pentax any more but the 16-85 and the new 55-300 look like a good start point?
I like the look of the KP, I had a quick handle of one, just pre release and loved it, I would need to try the various grips, to see if I can get the handling right and want to see a decent review (John?) but currently I must say it's looking like the one for me...

A decent review would be some one that as never used a Pentax camera some one that is not loyal to a brand and is very open minded

Every reviewer has at some point chosen to use a particular brand themselves, but that isn't necessarily related to how open minded they are. People are open minded because they are open minded, no more or less.

I'm about to upgrade our K-5 bodies, but it won't be to the KP. It will be the K-3 II. I see no reason to spend more when the K-3 II is already a fine camera that will be an excellent upgrade for a few more years use. It will sit alongside the K-1 very nicely.

The KP looks to me like a new path, perhaps leading to a P series? After all, we are running out of K numbers!
Best regards, John

Well I think John is very open minded and there is nothing wrong with being a Pentax user reviewing a Pentax product, John reviews many other products too and gives some great feedback and high praise to a lot of Lenses for instance from other manufacturers. I do understand the suspicion that surrounds reviews and indeed reviewers. The point being, John likes Pentax but makes no secret of it, many other reviewers out there are far more ambiguous and you have no idea what their angle is? Personally I prefer the type of review John does as they are concise to the point and from someone who knows how to use a Pentax...
Not everyone will agree with me on that...
Cheers Jules...

I'm interested in real world results.

I couldn't care less where the KP sits in the line up personally. Pentax has been testing the waters with different recipes of similar components for a while now, especially with the K-S line. The KP blurs the traditional model progression, but as always if it suits your needs then were it sits doesn't really matter.

I'm all about the results. If any paticulr camera works for you, then all good.

Personally at the moment I'm looking towards a K-80 in the future, with mechanical SR in video mode, and will likely sell both a K-30 and a K-S1 to fund it. Still nothing in a bracket I can afftord is leaping out at me unfortunately. That might change if Pentax were to give the K-3 line mechanical SR back, but somehow I don't see them doing that.

Nigel, you're not going daft, I'm sure I saw that on some of the early photos of it too. It must have been a design mock up of the camera and presumably Pentax thought having that did indeed downgrade it so swapped it for the K1 style mode dial.
I was quite surprised at seeing the change to the K1 style following the comment in this thread.

Richard, they said they will bring Video mode Sensor SR back via firmware, so they would surely build it in to future models from now on ...? .... Well, the high end models at least, where they presumably now are accepting that the user is knowledgeable enough to be able to cope with it!

Algernon referred earlier to the lack of a remote control option .... That would rule it out for me, but am I right to imagine that there would be a cable release type device that is compatible as an alternative?

John, just saw your post, maybe they were tossing up which way to pitch the KP ....I see the scene modes as a guide to the expected target end user.
