Hi,

I'm looking for a remote release cable/timer for the K3 so I can start using it on the tripod. Does any one know of a third party release. I'm having problems finding one local in Norfolk. WEX have none at the moment.

Can any one recommend one they have used etc.

Why not use the built-in timer?

Or is it that you want to trigger the K3 remotely, and if so, over what distance?

Hi John,

I could use the timer for now but just wanted a remote release, cable type if I can find one. Just nice to be able to stand by and take a few shots when on the tripod. I'm sure there is a third party made unit cheaper than the Pentax cable unit.

Look on eBay for Canon remote release or cable release. The Canon consumer camera's use the same connector used by Pentax.

The one you need is made by (or branded) the 'Shoot Remote Shutter Release RS-60E3'.
Cost about £4.80? and freely available on Amazon - just search for that number.
I have a couple and they work very well. The cable is approximately 34" in length.

My Canon one works on my K3.

As fellows above already confessed: use your Canon RS-60E3 or, if you are not coming to Pentax from Canon, buy yourself one as "a third party made unit cheaper than the Pentax cable unit". Works exactly as an original one

Why bother with a cable when you can use ir?

Indeed, I have a basic IR remote and an app on my phone that turns it into a remote control. The K3 has a big advantage over my old Kr in that it has a remote sensor on the back as well as on the front.

You can find a wired remote switch at the following website cost is only $1.90. This is a deal.

FWIW, I've used several cheap pistol grips with cable releases that plugged into the socket on the camera bodies but the plugs made very unreliable contacts in those sockets and were "laggy". What I would really have liked was a release with a transmitter that could be secured over the body sensor and accept signals from any direction - if you had that with a handheld release then you could use the release from wherever you wanted to stand, and not just when the release was in line-of-sight to the body sensors.

OTOH, I think that's a vain hope unless you can fork out for a release system with a receiver that fits into the hotshoe - and that "costs" (unless anyone can point to something "reasonably priced" that already exists)
K-3 II, K-3 and a K-70 from SRS (having now relegated the K-30 /"K-50" to a backup body), & some Sigma and Pentax lenses (and a lot of old 35mm gear!)

I have used a standard, cheap IR remote release for a long time. They sell them on E bay, direct from China. They are excellent. I was so impressed I bought a 2nd one as backup and have never had to use it. Advertised regularly for 1p -- yes 1p ! The range is good too.
Both the *istDS and the K5 are incurably addicted to old glass
