Hi. My K3 with fewer than 20k shutter movements gave up recently. Have sent it to Pentax via SRS Microsystems who are awaiting news from Pentax. Apparently they won't allow spares for 3rd party repairers. Anyone else had this problem? Camera worked in the morning and wouldn't switch on in the afternoon. Gutted.

I presume your camera is out of warranty ?
If so I would be wary about letting anyone who wasn't the official repair company fix your camera. I know the repair will not be cheap, but at least you will get a warranty on the repair from Pentax. You are doing the right thing going back to SRS. They are the best Pentax retailer in the country and will do their best to help you if they can.
I hope you get a solution that is not too costly.

Thanks. Yes it's cost that is going to be the thing. I bought the camera second hand and out of guarantee. If it's prohibitively expensive to repair, then I don't see the point. Used models are on the go for around £350 or so. Or do I step down to a K5 or K70. I do love the K3 however.

Mine is working fine with almost 35,000 actuations since I got it new in October 2014. Hope you can get it fixed, they are great cameras and even though it is an "old model" it does everything I ask of it.

Lots of film bodies, a couple of digital ones, too many lenses (mainly older glass) and a Horseman LE 5x4.

Well, I got a replacement K3, from WEX. Excellent service I must say, and a good price for a model with only 13k on the clock. I did manage to sell my old one via a popular auction site, so a happy end eventually.
