K20D question. Liveview mode focusing?

I was playing around with my K20D today, and discovered that in live view mode it does not take a focused picture when you push the shutter button. It will focus alright after a bit( mirror goes back down...etc) when I push the AF button on the back of the camera, and then, of course, I can push the shutter release button and take the now focused picture. But I was under the impression that in liveview mode it would still focus after just pushing the shutter release button, as it does in normal (through the viewfinder) mode. I realize the mirror has to go down and all, but it does not focus just using the shutter release. Sorry to be so long-winded.....but is that normal? Please don't ask me to read the manual. I seem to have lost it. thanks for your patience.

OK, have read, it seems you compose and focus as normal and then switch on the live view you then take the shot as required. Not sure if that makes sense but that is how it reads. Now we both wait for someone who uses the function to explain in more detail.

Thank you, at least if I do decide to use it I will know how to do it, wonder why the hand book does not say that, or have I missed it?

Alright then, many thanks for the responses. Really appreciate it. I will probably never use liveview, but it's nice to know my camera is working as it should.
