K20D price rise

So what do Pentax do then???

Do they continue selling lenses & bodies at a loss, resulting in business failure guaranteed???

Do they increase prices to cover the costs & overhead increases to try & stay in business???

No business wants to put prices up especially given the current climate, however by not putting prices up they risk business failure a lot more rapidly, no business can carry on giving stock away for less than cost price across its whole range.

It's all about elasticity of demand. Will the benefit of the rise in prices more than offset the drop in sales? The answer to that depends on how much the sales actually drop.

We shall see. Whatever happens, it's a bad time for all manufacturers, and if we want them to survive, we can help by buying their products.

I'm trying to decide whether to buy a 15mm lens or a 21mm.

Do you already have the 12-24mm? If not, then it's a splendid lens and much more versatile than just a 15mm.

Otherwise, the 21mm might get used more, depending on your photographic style.

I was starting to feel silly/mislead when I rushed to buy my k20d at the end of last month - quite happy I did now....

What are pentax playing at, almost enough to make me wonder if I should have bought the d90 instead...

I did have a 12-24mm once. But I am after something smaller and lighter.

I am looking at upgrading to the K20D (body only) but i just don't understand why SRS have increased there price from £519 especially when you start to look around. Argos £557, Devon Camera £520 (2 year Warrenty, Park Cameras £569, Digital Depot £569 and thats just a few. Surley if others can keep the price down then so can SRS. Is it really worth paying the extra £100+.

This has been answered elsewhere - basically SRS have had an excellent price, sold all their cameras and now the new price has hit.

Others with slower sales may have a little longer with lower priced stock. They may be charging more for their cameras than SRS were, but for a short while they will seem to be cheaper.

If you're buying, buy quickly!

George I have the 21 ltd and a Sigma 10-20. I do use the 21 and it seems good for street shots although I haven't done too much of this. The 10-20 gets used much more but is massive in comparison. I think that at that end of the scale small changes in focal length make big changes in perspective so the zoom comes into its own.

I am going to Bologna soon and I expect I'll take the 21, 35 and 70 in preference to the 10-20 and 17-50 purely on size. I can stick the primes in my pockets if I wear a jacket but the zooms need a bag.

Don't hold it against me but we are going RyanAir and so hand luggage only so I don't see any bag being viable apart from a very flimsy cotton one.

Why don't they follow Pentax USA? My K-7 was 854 pounds including delivery to Qatar from B&H. I do support the UK shops depending upon exchange rates and prices. i.e. My D700 was bought from RGB, my 17-35mm Minolta zoom was 149 pounds from WE as Minolta went out. But, PENTAX UK can sing for their supper as a price rise there commits me to two new lenses and the grip from Uncle Sam.

I understand what you are saying John, I have always rated SRS as being very good and i have used them in the past. If i was buying now then i would have to look elseware. Let's hope that things are different in a couple of month's time when i will be buying one.
It would just be nice if in this economic climate everyone could keep there price down.
