K20D 'Chugging' - Help!!!!

The good news on my vertical banding problem is that it was fixed (although at the fourth attempt). And the camera has since behaved perfectly, until tonight. When taking a photo it makes a chugging noise when the shutter is open - I noticed it on a long exposure. I haven't touched any of the menu settings. And it produces an image with ghosting. I've taken a video and a sample image. Any ideas would be appreciated:

Might be a SR problem, would be the first I've ever seen.
How on earth can you be so unlucky

You could try it with SR off and see what it does then.

I would contact Pentax and try to get one of the higher persons on the line to see if you can get some refund or maybe am upgrade to a K7 to ease the pain

It's the same with or without shake reduction. I bought the camera about seven months ago. I've had it in my possession for about three.

Just some a thought, is your lens fitted correctly, with that I mean do all the contacts make a good contact?
I can't think of much else, maybe a firmware update might do the trick?

The lens is fitted fine. Took hundreds of shots with it, no problem The firmware was updated at a previous repair.

Was the camera hand held when you took the image of the label?

The noise definately sounds like the sensor moving around, try doing a sensor clean and see what happens.

But it does need to go back for repair or replacement, personally I would want the latter so I would insist on that from the supplier first.

It's not camera shake, the camera was resting on the table with a cable release. I do think it's the sensor moving around. But I've no idea why it should do that as no menu settings were touched. I did try a sensor clean, but the problem persists.

Actually I did a dust removal. I've now tried a sensor clean and that is exactly the same noise and feel. So I'm pretty sure the sensor clean is kicking in each time I take a photo.

A general point: it would be most helpful if anyone posting in the Toubleshooter Forum left the EXIF data intact, a lot can be gleaned from it.

I wasn't aware I did anything to it.

I did not really mean update but replace to make sure no faults are in the firmware.

Like you said when you press the button it looks like the sensorshakes/cleaning goes on so does that not suggest something wrong with the controlling software (firmware)?
When you update your firmware you are replacing the old one it so any faults in it should be removed, it at least let you know if the fault was in there or not and you don't void the warranty.
There is not much besides that what you can do.

Sorry Stefan but I'm going to disagree with you

I think trying to rectify this fault by replacing the firmware is a bad idea, what if something goes wrong? Adrian is then faced with the problem of proving the camera was still faulty, the repairers can blame him for botching the firmware update.

I still say this should be taken up with the supplier of the camera and demand they replace it, lets face it, would you trust it not to develop anymore faults in the future? and what happens when its out of warranty?
