Can someone confirm whether or not the K200D supports Power Zoom?

I asked the same question here before; apparently the answer is "no".

A definite no, my 28-105 doesn't power zoom on my K200D.

Just checked my 28-80 and it's a definite no John.

Thanks all, I just sold a Power Zoom lens on eBay and the buyer reported back it was faulty. It turns out that, as we now have confirmed, the problem is that the K200D does not support Power Zoom.

Page 228 of the downloadable .PDF manual confirms that the Power Zoom function is not available on the K200D.

Not that I doubted anybody you understand . . .

This says it does -

maybe this is causing the confusion?

I'd quite like to have the power zoom because I have a power zoom lens, but I don't want it enough to change my mind about which camera to buy.

Page 229 of the manual states that "DA lenses with Ultrasonic motor and FA zoom lenses with power zoom use the KAF2 mount", which the K200D has.

The same paragraph ends with "Note that this camera is not equipped with a power zoom function".

Now I thought that the two contacts inside the K mount provided power only to the SDM and PZ lenses, so the manual Power Zoom should work, even if the fancy PZ functions (image size tracking etc) aren't available, I think.

Academic to John's buyer as he's probably upgraded by now as this thread is about 18 months old.

You'd think so, but it doesn't seem to work like that. My K-m is fine with SDM and HSM lenses but won't operate the power zoom on my 28-80mm. Dad's K7 will though!

I find myself wondering if Pentax reduced the available power from the contacts on the lower-end bodies. I could sort of understand it on cameras using AA batteries as they might be worried that in certain situations the PZ motor would draw too much current, leaving the batteries without enough juice to keep the camera working reliably.
