K20 or K-R

I am looking at getting a K-R but have seen a couple of mint K20's. I shoot mostly landscape at base ISO,one obvious advantage of K20D is that I live on the Isle of Lewis which = rain.
Is a used K20 a better option than a used K-R ?

The K-r is faster than the K20D, but you've hit the nail on the head regarding weather resistant sealing. If you want to shoot in the rain, you've really answered your own question.

I want to thank you John for your faithfulness in responding to questions.
I wouldnt say I want to shoot in the rain but its good to have it as peace of mind. Even if I did go out in the rain I am unsure of how far one can push these weather sealed cameras.
At base ISO is there an IQ gain in the K20 over the K-R ?
I imagine the live view on the K-R is better ?

At base ISO I think all camera can produce excellent image I would say.

The Live View of the K-r is much better.

As for the rain, I just ignore it and carry on anyway. The K10D, K20D and K-5 have all performed without a glitch no matter how wet it was. The weatherproofing on the lenses has also been fine.

However, I never change lenses until everything is absolutely dry again.

Both the cameras you mention have excellent IQ and I would be happy with either on that score.

The K20D also has the advantages of dual control wheels and a real pentaprism. The K20D's IQ at base ISO (200) is excellent. It gets a bit dodgy at faster ISOs. If you're mainly taking landscapes at low ISO, perhaps using a tripod on those wet grey days, it'll do the job just fine.

Lots of film bodies, a couple of digital ones, too many lenses (mainly older glass) and a Horseman LE 5x4.

PS Live view on the K20D is dire. It was introduced in the 'spec race' before Pentax had got a decent implementation sorted.

If you use base ISO why not consider the K-7?
I went from a K-X to K-7 and love it. top lcd panel is great for quick glancing and the extra external buttons/dials are handy too.

Although the k20d is slow compared to the k-r I would hold both and see which you prefer... the k20d is still an excellent camera and at current second hand prices is a bargain...

I got rid of my k-r as it was to small foe my hands. Super camera though...
