Does anyone know how many Sigma lenses are sold each year compared to Pentax ones? I'm guessing there are more new Sigmas around than Pentaxes, so even if the failure rate was the same as Pentax, there'd be more people with duff lenses.
I'm happy with my Sigma 10-20mm. There is distortion at 10mm, when the edges of the frame shows barrel distortion (I like to think of it as a smile ), but I don't use the extremes that often, and mostly my subject is nature, so straight lines are less prominent.

I chose the Sigma over the Pentax 12-24 for a) price and b) extra zoom range (which didn't overlap with my 16-45 as much).

P.S. If anyone wants a mural painted, I know a very good artist. (Not me!)

To put the cat amongst the proverbial pigeons, the only lens I have bought which had any problems on delivery was a 31mm limited!
I think as with many things the people who have no trouble tend to be less vocal than those who do. It's probably a case of (and don't quote me on these stats I am litterally pulling them from thin air) 90% of all sigma lenses are fine compared to 95% of Pentax
