K10d to K20d upgrade?

Hi all.

I have my K10d, but keep woundering if the change to a K20d should be made.
I have had some great pics with the K10d, and still do so to great effect, but woundering of your thoughts if a K20d would be a worthy upgrade.

What do you think of your moves from K10-K20

If you are happy with your K10D why change it? There will be a new model out soonish I imagine, so maybe you should wait and just skip the K20D - I skipped the K10D completely, and will skip the next model too I expect.

I agree, I went from a K110 to a K200 but that's quite a step. Going from a K10D to K20D really doesn't give you anything, it's unlikely you'll use the extra megapixels.

The K20D is a worthy upgrade if you would enjoy higher resolution, less noise at high ISO settings, more effective Shake Reduction, and a few more little conveniences in the firmware. Live View is a nice bonus as well, and works better than I was expecting from the reviews.

You will use the extra megapixels for large prints or tight crops.

Remember that the next model will be several hundred pounds more expensive for several months at least, perhaps for more than twelve months.

Order a K20D today (literally today), with a pentax lens, and you can get £100 cash back. Net cost £480 with 18-55mm II lens.

I'm in a similar position and considering an upgrade to my GX10, must admit though that the K20D probably doesn't provide enough of a step to convince me to get one, the K30D may do however so I'm watching developments

I have been using the K10D and K20D alongside each other for a while now, and I'm quite sure that the latter is a very significant step forwards.

On paper you might not think so, but in actual day to day photography there are lots of things that have been redressed or refined.

At the current price it's even better value, plus of course you could sell the K10D on eBay (we got £330 for one of ours) so the upgrade will not cost very much at all.

I do not agree, I had a K10 and a very good camera it was, but the K20 I now have is a very different beast,in many ways like the K10 but in others a big step forward.
Yes if you just want to use "presets" then have a K-m a very good camera to learn with you then step up the line to the best, and that is now the K20 far more than just more pixels.
That is why many accomplished photograpers on this forum have done just that.

Good poing about selling the K10D. So the £480 I mention above minus £330 is £150, and if you have a good standard zoom already you can sell the 18-55 II for £70 net.

So that's a grand total cost of £80, or £180 if too late for Cashback.

Thanks for the feedback John..it is difficult judge "paper specs" so some real world info is very helpful, I must admit though I really need to know what the K30D is going to offer first

Simon, you could wait forever....what about the K40D?

My philosophy is jump in and enjoy it in all the time you could be thinking about it....

You may even find that the K30 is just maybe, a medium format Digital.
But i do know the K20 "upgrade" will be a Satellite position enhancement similar to other top end cameras, Pentax have already said this.

Graham just missed out of the cashback Pentax was giving and nobody says the K10D is a bad camera. There are surely things that I like about the K20D but I would rather spend the money at a lens at this moment.
We might hear some more about the new Pentax camera soon with a camera fest in the UK and we will probable see it the end of this year. I would slam my head if it comes with a new AF system while I just bought the K20D.

I will just wait till the K30D and see what I do, if it wouldn't be the K30D then I can get one of the Last K20D for a very nice price. That is how I'm going to play it now. If we had the cashback here I might have bought a K20D but since we hadden't

According to the SRS website you can place your order up until 11.59pm and still be entitled to the cashback.
