"Fandled" - Is that an amalgam of Handled and Fondled? Very much what a lot of us are desperately waiting to do to a K10D...

If Pentax had swamped their dealers with kit, all you would see are stories about how the K10D launch "flopped", together with complaints from those dealers, and sniggers from the Kanikon people. From a marketing perspective it is always better to have slightly too little stock available to create the perception of an item being in demand, then you can run lots of stories about how popular that item is. Common thing with toys at xmas. In this case, Big Boys (and Girls) Toys! It's not poor planning from Pentax, it's clever marketing, and the same marketing strategy everyone uses. Well done Pentax for learning how to play the game.

All in all a bit of a pathetic launch, Pentax should have had much more stock available for pre-Christmas sales, I guess that most of the available stock will be snatched up by existing Pentax users, leaving very little stock left for "Christmas shoppers" Anyone looking for a new DSLR this Christmas will probably end up with a Canon or Nikon.
What makes you think Canon or Nikon are any better....All in all a bit of a pathetic launch, Pentax should have had much more stock available for pre-Christmas sales, I guess that most of the available stock will be snatched up by existing Pentax users, leaving very little stock left for "Christmas shoppers" Anyone looking for a new DSLR this Christmas will probably end up with a Canon or Nikon.

Verdict
Pentax are back! With the possible exception of frame rate, made up for in part with the Shake-reduction and dual RAW capability, this camera is up there with Nikon’s D200 and Canon’s 30D. Packed with features that have been well thought out and are easily accessible in a body that has been built to withstand the pressures of hard use in typically English climates it has a lot going for it. If their lens line-up takes a similar leap in the next twelve months, Pentax will be back toe-to-toe with the big boys. This is a serious advanced amateur or semi-pro camera.
Can't wait to get my grubby mits on one Verdict

One thing in the ePhotozine review - regarding the buffer, the reviewer, after saying that jpegs can be recorded non-stop until the card is full, states "Unfortunately, this drops to five frames only, once the file format is changed to RAW". Is this right, as I thought it was supposed to be nine frames.

On my sample, at least, I get nine quick frames in RAW and then it slows to a bit less than two per second. Fast enough for me.
That's with a 133x Lexar SD card, which means the camera must be writing to the card at something like 20MB/sec.

The thread is here:

That's what Ian found doing the review. For me, whether it's 5 or 9 RAW frames, I don't mind
Have seen some nice samples http://www.pbase.com/tcom/k10d - just makes the 21mm and 70mm pancakes look rather desirable too
(BE WARNED if you are on a lens diet )

Nikon had a problem predicting demand for the D200, which was very hard to find for a while. This is not an exact science. If Pentax had made too many, they might have sunk the company.
