K10d refusing to fire

An odd thing happened on Saturday evening. I was taking a few shots at a friend's leaving party held in a community centre. I find the K5 still tends to over expose with flash, even with the latest firmware, so I was mostly using the K10d with AF540FGZ. I was attempting some overall shots of the crowd using 16-45 lens at 16mm when the camera refused to fire, neither flash nor shutter. I adjusted the focal length to 24mm and it worked fine.

Any ideas?

What's the maximum flash width?

16mm is the maximum according to the spec, and I was also using an omnibounce so I should have had enough coverage, I think

Sorry, I hadn't seen the model number earlier. The max width of the flash is 24mm. If you had your camera on auto it may have overridden you and decided that you had to be within limits.

I've had a similar issue in the past with my K20D + DA*16-50 + AF540FGZ.

There are two reasons why the camera may not trigger the shutter:-

1: The camera has not locked focus.
2: The flash has not recycled to a ready state.

In my case I was using the outfit in a park, at night with low ambient street lighting, filming parts of the Roman's and Carthaginian's fiesta in Murcia this summer.

My camera refused to fire on numerous occasions and I think the main cause of my problem was the inability of the camera to focus properly in low light.
