As the menu systems are different, that could be very unwise...

But surely the menu systems come from the firmware. And probably the underlying electronics are identical. As the menu systems are different, that could be very unwise...
My guess is that it could work, provided (as is quite likely) Samsung and Pentax have not deliberately prevented it.

I agree with George, but bear in mind that this will certainly void your warranty so if anything goes wrong you will have made the GX-10 into a very expensive paperweight.

That the lenses are coated is beyond doubt - you can see that they are. The 50-200mm lenses that I examined side by side seemed to have identical coating relections, so I deduce from that that the coatings were probably the same.
My financial advisor/minister of the interior and I visited the Thader shopping mall in Murcia today where I spent a few minutes in an 'everything electrical' shop called Saturn. That the lenses are coated is beyond doubt - you can see that they are. They had, side by side on their display (along with Canon & Nikon & Fujifilm & Olympus), A Pentax K10D + DA 18-55mm and a Samsung GX10 and it's Schneider 18-55mm kit lens. Whilst the rubber grips around the barrel were different material on each lens, the coatings, to me, looked identical. The reflected colours were the same from both lenses, if that's any indication.
As this was the first time I have been able to compare them I spent some time looking them both over. The finish of the Samsung product is very much cheaper 'n cheerful than the Pentax body.
I think this is the first retailer I have visited who has had the entire current Pentax Lineup available for comparison. They not only had the K10D conveniently placed next to the Samsung but they had a K100D and K110D as well. BTW: The Pentax K10D + kit lens was 999.00€, the Samsung was 899.00€

Do you think the build quality difference would account for the over 5:1 price difference in the two versions of the 50-200mm lens? Currys at £29.87
Warehouse Express at £169
Unless Currys have the price wrong.

I saw only the Pentax and Samsung versions of the 18-55mm kit lenses, not the 50-200mm. My opinion, apart from the rubber focus/zoom grips and name labels, they seemed identical to me.
Curry's online price may be £29.87, but they offer only reserve & collect, and guess what . . . none of the stores have stock . . . unless you know different and want to share that information with us.

It’s very tempting to get a Samsung 50-200mm as a stop gap until Pentax release their new telephotos.

Frankly, Currys can quote any price they want if there's no hope of anyone buying it at that price. They don't offer home delivery, just a 'reserve and collect' service, but I challenge you to find a store with any in stock.Do you think the build quality difference would account for the over 5:1 price difference in the two versions of the 50-200mm lens?

Click 'Add to Basket', then proceed to checkout, where you can enter your postcode, or town, and they'll show you the stock in your nearest 3 stores.
I bet they don't have any.

I believe some people did make purchases, but when I tried it was way too late.
I didn't even need to buy another 50-200mm lens, but at that price....

I guess when something looks too good to be true….it is. Click 'Add to Basket', then proceed to checkout, where you can enter your postcode, or town, and they'll show you the stock in your nearest 3 stores.

Did as you suggested and tried to order it and the three nearest stores (all fairly large ones) are out of stock.

For the saving you'd make, if you were after one, it would be worth checking your not-so-near stores - at that price it would be worth the drive!
Alternatively, shopping around does show the Pentax version at £149 (www.srsmicrosystems.co.uk, possibly others too).

Edinburgh, Glasgow, Carlisle, Newcastle Upon Tyne, Liverpool, Manchester, Birmingham, Telford, Swansea, Plymouth, Bristol, Cambridge, Cheltenham, Exeter, Penzance, Southampton + a few more . . . the result . . .
BTW, the Currys website shows the 9 nearest stores, not 3 as previously mentioned.
So, I've decided to sell them for 0.01p. Have I got stock? Nope. Will I get stock? Nope.
Samsung and me, we're history. It's Pentax only for me.
Note for George: They don't list any stores on the IOM.

The cameras are the same, but they appear to have slightly different firmware, and Pentax seem to update theirs more regularly.
This is important. Pentax have added wireless flash support and tethered operation in this way. I don't know if these have been added to the Samsung yet.
