I hae just purchased (19/2/08 ) a New K10D. The 4 way controller and the central 'OK ' button appear to be loose. Is this normal, so that it is not inadvertenly activated ???

No, it's not normal. Was this a new machine, or second-hand? Whichever, send it back.

I assumed the play was perfectly normal. It makes the buttons more ergonomic as the angle of your thumb changes.

My *ist DS and brand new K10D are like this - and fine to use.

It all depends what you mean by "loose" and "play" so it's not easy to make a judgement on whether it's normal or not.

If in doubt, why not have a look at another camera to see if it is the same?
Best regards, John

I have just checked my K10Ds, and guess what? The controller and OK button ARE a bit loose. However, before you mentioned it, I would have sworn on my life that they weren't.

So, sorry. They are a bit loose, and it's normal.

Yep, mine is too. A sort of 'wiggly' loose but not at all making you think it's going to fall off.

I'd have said no, too, if you'd asked me, but not on George's life..

I've just checked mine and it's the same - how strange we didn't notice this before!

That's very comforting to know.

That is true, but I think it's more likey to be a normal amount of play than not. It is enough to give the impression that it might be faulty. I think it actually makes it better to use than more fixed buttons. "Float" might be a better word for it.

Not a bad idea.
