K10D - SR setting for older lenses

Do we set the indicated focal length, or the effective focal length (FL) (indicated FL x 1.5)?

I have assumed that we set the lens's indicated FL, does anybody know for certain. The manual setting of 8 - 800mm is mentioned in the manual but it doesn't state whether or not to use the effective focal length.

Similarly, when using a teleconverter, say a 2x and a 400mm lens, does that also have to be factored in to the choice of setting? I'm guessing it does.

I think you assume correctly... twice

Enter the actual focal length (that's what's recorded in the EXIF for zooms, and what shows on the info display).

When using teleconverters you enter the actual focal length again - so, 2x + 400mm = 800mm. It's a right pain with the Pentax AF 1.7x converter

I have been setting the lens true focal length since this is what the camera reports when it can read the focal length from the lens.

It seems to work although one thing I've noticed is it seems to be better to over estimate than under. I have a 90mm macro lens and although the manual implies that the best setting would be 85mm I have found that 100mm works better.

If using a TC I assume you'd need to put in the FL of the combination, and this seems to work with my 90mm and 2x converter.

Interesting thought, This means that SR wont work properly using an automated TC unless that TC can change the focal length reported to the camera
