K10D - Remote Control....

Just received a 7dayshop Remote Control for Pentax (Bargain at £2-99 or so I thought...)

On my K10D - Press Fn, set drive mode to Remote Control - icon appears on LCD, red lamps front and rear blink. Press shutter release on remote....nothing!

Is there some subtle custom function I'm missing (i.e. I am "thick"!) or do I have a "dud"?

Thanks in advance!

Does the remote only work from the front on the K10D?

Sounds as if the remote control might be a dud. I would check that it has a battery fitted and that you are using it within line of sight of the sensor on the camera. If I recollect rightly the K10 has a sensor both at the front and rear of the camera.

Sorry, can’t help with any suggestions for your IR remote. But if it is any consolation, I purchased a genuine “Pentax” K10, IR remote, and I never ever got that to work.
So purchased a plug in cable remote.

Take care.

I think Gwyn has a point - check the manual

I think they work from both sides, pretty sure.

If you have a TV remote you could try all the buttons on that, my sony remote "return" and "tools" buttons work the K-5, front and back.
Lurking is shirking.!

Just checked online and the K10D does have front and rear receivers, so my idea is out the window.

You have it set to remote, not remote 3s release?

Somewhere in the menus is setting to allow AF with the remote - if you aren't focussed on something it won't fire.

I have the same problem! My remote works on K100D but not on the K10. Symptoms exactly as you describe. It should work from both sides. Not that I really need one as it means lugging round a tripod...
Best wishes,

Andrew

Wow, thanks for the quick replies folks....

@Dougf8 - my Sony remote (or Panasonic) doesn't work, unfortunately

@Gwyn - yes I did check that Custom Setting - but with AF off I assume it will fire whether in focus or not....(?)

Seems like I have a "dud", will try to get an exchange I think.

Not necessarily. There may be a custom menu choice as to whether the camera waits for the green hexagon focus indicator to light or whether the shutter can be released any time.

I can't find one on the K10D.

There's one that specifies whether you can release the shutter while the flash is charging, and there are a couple that govern what the AF button does, and whether a half press also AFs.

But AFAICS, the only way of allowing it to fire when not focused is setting to manual focus (well, or AF-C, but that's slightly different).

The implication of this is that it's not possible to use AF lenses in MF, and use the trap-focus technique the way you can with MF lenses with the body set to AF.

Is that right?

Was this problem resolved?
I have tried a second remote on a K10d no joy.

You could try setting [AF in remote control] to [On] in custom functions menu. I have both a Pentax waterproof IR control and an old TV clicker and both work well with my K10D. Bright light also interferes with the functionality. Bob
