if the camera is set to focus priority shtter release, and the remote does not send the af signal or the lens does not achieve focus the the camera will not fire..
easy way to test.. set the af control on the body to MF and see if it fires..
Fired many shots. Didn't kill anything.

I bought a remote for my K-r from ebay, £1.99 delivered, from Hong Kong !

It came quite quickly and DOES work (on my K-r).

NOTE: The K-r manual says you MUST pre-focus, i.e. press shutter half way to set auto focus, before pressing the remote control button

Following this procedure - no problems - perhaps the same applies with the K10D ?

The controller says it is for all Pentax so you might like to try one ?

The link is :-

If that link doesn't work just go to ebay and look for tinxi-global:-
eBay My World: tinxi-global ( 47691)

Good luck

UPDATE !

I just checked on ebay & the easiest way to find the controller is to paste the following description into the search box !

Remote Controller f Pentax K100D 110D 200D 30D 20D 10D

NOTE: This version specifically states K10D !

I bought mine off amazon from a firm called E-COMPATIBLES its called JOOX and cost a bit more than the Hong kong ones at £3.99 it appears to work with any PENTAX. Tried it last night with the K-R and it worked fine, i was sat in a chair and i looked like JABBA THE HUTE,
Happy Christmas
