K10D...how to change ISO?

Hi,

Is the ISO change on the K10D ONLY in the menu, or can you make some button change it with a custom setting?

...I hate these things buried in menus!

It is very accessible in the Fn menu though.

It's customiseable within the menu. Both front and back wheels can have their functions reassigned.

Sv mode allows you to change ISO from the rear thumb wheel. Works for me when I am happy for the camera to set apature and shutter for me.

If you use Av or Tv mode, you can assign one of the e-dials to control ISO. So for Av, I have the rear dial controlling aperture and the front dial doing ISO.

If I'm in manual mode, I find it easier to quickly switch to Av, adjust the ISO, then switch back to manual, rather than going to the function button.

E-dial functions are controlled from the custom setting menu.

By the way, you won't find mention of this in the Manual, because it was only introduced with the first firmware upgrade.

In manual mode, just press the OK button and change the ISO using the front wheel.

As mentioned... this is my setup:

* Upgrade to firmware 1.30 (if you haven't already done so)
* Enter the custom settings menu and reassign the wheels for Av (I have rear = Aperture, front = ISO)
* Using the Fn menu, setup Auto ISO and the range.

Now it works like this:
- Auto ISO is in use normally
- Use the front wheel to force the ISO
- Press the Green button to switch back to auto ISO
- Hold down the OK button to see the number of exposures.

The nice thing is that all info is displayed in the viewfinder - Shutter Speed, Aperture, and ISO.

Couldn't live without this feature now

Pressing "OK" and the green button together takes you back to auto ISO in modes other than manual (where auto ISO is non-selectable). I think this is only for the later firmware versions though.

No, you won't find this in the manual. This is because these features (and the wireless flash operation, etc) were introduced in firmware updates after the camera was initially launched. As far as I'm aware the manual has never been updated and so only covers features that were present in version 1.0 of the K10D's firmware.
