I've just gone to use my k100D and which ever button i press it makes some kind of constant clicking noise until i stop pressing the button. It won't allow me to take photos, and skips things in time with the cliking on the menu and whatnot.
does anyone know what this is and how i can fix it?

Are you sure the battery's are not dead:, or the connections are ok:

Are you sure the lens is mounted correctly?
Sometimes the focus screw doesn't engage correctly and you get that kind of effect - the camera's trying to focus and can't

I have seen this happen to another K100 (if its the same clicking noise I witnessed)
It was the mirror rapidly going up and down. It was quite a loud noise and obvious it was the mirror.
The camera was dead with nothing else happening besides the mirror bounce. And it also bounced with no lens attached.

Tried changing batteries with no luck.
He ended up sending it in for repair but wasn't told what was wrong with it when it was returned. So I can't help you with a fix, sorry

Two possibilities come to mind.

-If using a lens with an aperture control ring, the ring is not set to "A". I'm not positive why this causes the clicking noise, but I have exoerienced it.

-If using a lens with an on-board control for manual focus (some Sigma lenses, for example) the lens' control is on "manual" whilst the camera's is on "auto". (This is the more likely explanation if using a lens with the on-board switch.) The clicking in this case will be the camera unsuccessfully trying to focus the lens, but the lens' focusing mechanism is disconnected.

it seems to be doing it with whichever button i press, the menu wont come on now, it just flashes. I'll take it into college to the photography technician see what she thinks.

I've been having this same problem too. Did you find out what the problem is?

I don't see my mirror bouncing inside. It is a much quieter clicking sound but it is like click-click-click-click very rapidly. Flash will not pop out, pictures can't be taken, but I CAN look at previous pics and look around at the menu...

Thanks for your help!

sounds exactly like what mine did. unfortunately I had to send it off to Pentax themselves to be repaired, and it costed be £228 to be repaired. it was something to do with the main circuit board inside, but someone else picked it up from the shop for me so i never got the technical details.

I am the same user by the way, i just forgot my password so i made a new account I hope you get sorted!
