Is there any way to hold the preview image, so it doesn't time out ?

I've found the up/down arrows work if Histogram is displayed, but any way other than this ? maybe one key press ??

You can adjust the time it displays through the custom menu.

done that Peter ! but if I want to study it a bit longer how can I hold it there ?

Just hit the preview [>] button. It should hold for quite a long time - at least a minute or so. If you want to view for longer than a minute without hitting a button to keep the camera awake, you would likely be better off dumping to a computer or other device better suited to viewing the image... without draining your batteries away.

It's already saved by then ! I'm trying to decide if I want to save it or not sometimes that takes longer than 5 secs.

It's saved the moment you take the shot and it appears on the screen. You still have to press the delete button in either the preview or review mode to get rid of it.

Exactly !! and I only have 5 secs to make up my mind. What if I want to have a better look before deciding whether to hit the Delete button or not ??

Buy a bigger card, and save yourself the stress.

have you tried hitting the review button, blue triangle bottom left on the back? The images should come on and stay on until the camera goes to sleep. You can scroll thru them by using the directional ring on the right of the screen and delete those required using the dustbin button. you can also enlarge or reduce the image using the wheel top right. the use of any of these buttons extends the time before the camera sleeps.

Can you use the scroll wheel to zoom in a tick during the instant preview? The preview should then stay put until you press the shutter button again or the camera goes to sleep.
Although I wouldn't get too worked up over the image going away. Just hit the preview button to bring it back. There is no difference between viewing/deleting before or after the instant preview goes away other than the extra second it might take to press the blue [>] button.

Although if it is taking five seconds to save a single image and this is slowing down your shooting, you may want to seriously consider buying a faster memory card. That sounds extremely slow. I could see that perhaps re-reading for the preview could also be rather frustrating, and not worth the savings on a cheap memory card.
IMO, if it is that cheap it probably won't last long either. Memory is cheap now. Buy a quality card and live stress free. Best $15 you'll spend.

The point is, as soon as you take the shot, it's saved. End of. You don't have 5 seconds to decide to save it, it's already saved. You have a 5 second preview of the shot that has just been saved.

If you press 'review' you get longer to make your choice.

Either way, you still have to press 'delete' to, well, y'know, delete the saved image.

I guess I, and others, don't see what the problem is.

Exactly![/quote]But NO Histogram !! unless u have it turned on for every image in review. I just don't find 5 secs is long enough to study the histogram fully ! that's all

It doesn't take five secs to save ! that's the MAX review time, set in options. I have a large, fast card already, I am just trying to view the histogram long enough to decide whether or not it's worth saving or if I should adjust settings and take again. Can't see any point in filling the card (no matter how large) with rubbish pics !

Stuart, Are you aware that in "playback" mode you can hit the "info" button several times to scroll through various display options, one of these options is to display the histogram with the image during playback.

If I want to take more than five seconds to view the image, I simply press the picture button. Can't see what the problem is.
