yes your lenses that fit your K-x, there are quite a few members
on here use both k-5 & there K-x, upgrade you wont regret it as for canoooooon you would need to buy in to a new system and pricey lenses.

Agree with the above.
Looking to upgrade myself and looked at canikon ranges but expense of new lenses works out quite expensive compared to sticking with pentax.

the k-5 cannot be tethered to a laptop for lightroom.
The k-5 is an excellent camera, however it is only a tool to do a job & it depends what job you want to do with it.
Always best to hold the cameras you think you need then make a decision. In 2012 the digital SLR market is now all very similar & all are capable of making very good images.

Tethered? Why? In all honesty, unless you are doing a lot of event work which requires almost instant prints, you don't need it. Just have a few cards and transfer to the laptop whilst on the job (one card uploading and another in camera, and third as backup), or upload in the comfort of your own home.
As for lights, yes it does have the X-sync port, but in reality buy some wireless triggers for the lights, so much more flexible. (I have both, and the wireless are better)
Now for the C word. Trying to avoid being a brand Jock, will the 7D or 5D give you much more for shooting than the K-5? I am not so sure. At a recent studio shoot, friends of mine were using various Canon and Nikon models, and we are talking about serious expensive bodies and L lenses. But did they get better shots than the K-5? not really. The K-5 more than holds its own, and is superb in the studio. As you have a range of lenses, why not use them on the K-5 and save serious money changing.

I am a K-x owner (for approx 1 year) and I have also just bought a K-5 about a month ago. I can tell you without hesitation that the K-5 is a seriously great camera, but also that I still rate the K-x very highly too. For the money, I don't think the K-x could be beaten when it was brought out and only the K-r tops it at the price now (BTW, I actually prefer the handling of the K-x to the K-r, but that's just a personal thing).
The K-5 is a semi-pro body, fantastic build quality and more features than you could wish for. It also takes scintillating images and is significantly better than the K-x for colour depth, dynamic range and shots taken in very low light (although the K-x is very good in low light / high ISO, it is not as good as the K-5). If you use auto-focus, the K-5 is also miles better than the K-x in this regard (faster, more accurate, less 'hunting'). It is a lovely camera to use and has a very quiet / vibration-free shutter action which helps to avoid undue shake and doesn't scare off birds!
The K-5 beats the Canon / Nikon equivalents in many reviews, even when comparing Canon / Nikon bodies that are considerably more expensive. It compares even more favourably if you look at price-equivalent models.
If you can afford to buy a K-5, I don't think you would regret it, but I would keep the K-x as well. You can then have a long lens on one and a more general lens on the other and swap lenses less often.

i agree with this .on our course when certain settings require aleration canon,nikon and sony are all diving into menues while i am sat waiting because all i had to do was press a button on the top or back

Everything has been really useful and comments taken on board. I think I'll go ahead and get a K-5.

I have a had a K-x for a few years and am thinking of upgrading it now, possibly to a K-5.
Would the various lenses that I have for my current camera, fit the K-5? I think the answer is 'Yes' but I need to be sure.
Also, is the K-5 considered a 'professional' model type? I really like my Pentax but all my Canon friends are really sniffy about it and urging me to switch! This has possibly made me even more likely to stick with Pentax (!!) but I'd like to be sure that I am going for the right upgrade as I don't want to have to replace it anytime soon.
I'm not as techy as I'd like but I would also like to know if the K-5 has ports on the body for linking it to my lighting kit and to my laptop to view images in Lightroom at the same time? I have looked at the info on the reviews but I'm beginning to feel out of my depth and am glazing over a bit!
I would value any opinions and advice.
