k-x remote sensor on front of camera

Hi all, has anyone got around the problem of having to stand in front of camera to use remote control. saw an ad in flickr for a mirror from US which is supposed to allow you to operate from behind the camera, but has anybody tried this, or something similar? thanks in advance.

Drill a hole through a cork, feed in cable, cut slot for remote. Aim other end at IR receiver and hey presto, fly by wire.
