K-7 Lens correction function

How is the lens correction function stored on the K-7. Is it automatically assigned to the lens when you change it or does it have a index that can be scrolled through and stored one to twenty. The reason is I attached one of my old lenses to the camera and was ask the question "Focal Length" not concentrating I set the information to the current focal length not the total length of the lens and would like to adjust it.

Are you talking about the Lens correction function or the input of focal length when you turn the camera on, these are 2 different functions all together.

If you are refering to the focal length, then it will ask for the focal length every time you turn the camera on, it doesn't store this information.

Probably both, I initially took the male approach and did not bother with the manual, just too many knobs to play with! Then read the manual and was just as confused. I assume the focal length requested is the total focal length and not the current focal length and if it is an old lens do I have to account for the 1.5 crop factor?

The input of focal length is asked for when a lens it attached that the camera does not recognise. This might be an older manual Pentax lens or perhaps another make of lens altogether.

Pentax AF lenses will almost never ask for this input and will recognise the lens automatically. This is for the purposes of the SR mechanism.

No you don't have to take into account the crop factor, just put in the actual focal length of the lens.

I'm not sure what you mean by total focal length and current focal length : are you referring too a zoom lens : and as John says it will only ask for focal lengths on lenses it does not recognise.

Regarding the current focal length, yes it's an old zoom.

Having cleared the first part of my confusion anyone want to tell me how the lens correction function stores information regarding each lens attached. I gather it can store twenty different lens adjustments. Is this individual information accessible via a list or does it just adjust depending what lens is attached at the time.

The camera can do CA and distortion correction for certain lenses as well, but I think you are talking about Auto Focus Adjustment. This is for auto-focus lenses and the correcting of back/front focus.

The camera does not come with any pre-stored AF Adjustment settings. It allows you to enter settings.

The camera stores your settings in a list, but you don't have access to the whole list at once, only to the setting for the current lens fitted. This is near the end of the Custom menu under AF Adjustment.

The camera recognises an individual AF lens when fitted.

It does remember the last setting entered, so when turning on the camera again with the same lens as before, you can just half-press the shutter button to get rid of the focal length stuff instead of pressing the OK button, if you prefer.

For optimal shake reduction with a zoom lens, the setting should be changed every time you zoom, but you might want to leave it on a compromise setting for convenience.

Thanks Pete, I can now see where I was getting confused. I am particularly interested to see if I can get better results from my slightly troublesome Sigma 70-300 lens, time to go and play I think.
