K-7 Green mode, ISO question

Hello,

Well I must say the K-7 is lovely. The feel is good, the picture quality is excellent with the kit WR lens. I like the pocket manual. I'll be putting a few more lenses on today(well a couple). I mostly annoyed my wife by using the flash whilst she watched the TV.

A question for those experienced users. I have asked professor google but I may be asking the wrong question.

In Green button auto mode, I can not control ISO, and the K-7 will decide what ISO to use up to 800 (unless I change the max ISO in menus). This is a departure from the GX20/K20D where the ISO limits affected all shooting modes. Am I right?

(its not a problem as I will usually be in Program mode I think. I can understand why but I don't like this feature if I'm right)

Thanks

TBH I almost always use Av mode. Like the K20 I have assigned the second wheel to ISO, but with the dedicated button on the K7 I'm trying to learn to use that!
One little thing to watch for is the Ev compensation button and ISO button. On the K20 the compensation was hold-and-dial, whereas the K7 buttons are toggles

Not 100% sure there's any difference in the auto ISO, but will tryand check later.

Matt,

Thanks. Yes in P front for Tv rear for Av easy enough.
I'm missing the bracketing button on the GX20.

I'll just have to adapt to the scary level of change!

I think they've dumbed down the Green auto mode to auto everything as per Panasonic.

To be fair, I think that's what green mode has always been for. I know on my K-m it locks everything in auto, so you could safely let granny take photos with it.

Not on the GX20 and GX10, Changing the ISO limits or setting ISO manually changed them universally even on the auto green. Unless I'm dreaming.

K20D manual shows on p80 in Green mode ISO available (ref p83)
K-7 its not p93.

Granny could put the K20D on green mode but also ensure that any images she took would be at ISO100 and at the highest jpeg quality.

She can't do either on the K-7. She'll end up in ISO800 and using normal jpeg compression. For granny K-7 in green may not be the best camera to get quality flower shots in her garden any more. She'd better hold on to the K20D/GX20.

Sorry, but what mode are you talking about? I find it hard to believe than in Av pressing Green resets the ISO.

On the mode dial Av, Tv, Sv, P and Green Mode, easy steet. Nothing to do with pressing green buttons.

It doesn't reset ISO it just automatically ramps up to ISO800 to make things easy.

Not talking about any of the other modes P, Av etc.

Thanks, I think we're there folks. The question is not how to use the camera in P, Av, Tv, Sv, M, B, USER. Nothing to do with the front/rear dials.

It was a question/observation specifically about how Pentax have changed the behaviour of the camera when used in Green Mode specifically the automatic ISO now deciding what it wants to do up to 800 rather than taking its lead from the ISO settings you want.

You are right Doug, I tried a few shots in Green Mode and it looks as if auto iso is adjusted to 100-800 by the green mode protocol. In good light iso goes down to 100 but in near darkness it does not go any higher than 800. Using flash in poor light results in iso 800.

I suppose the thinking is that the settings should allow a useable picture to be taken in most conditions.
