K-7 Fail!?!?!?

Its raining. I mean it's really raining! As it stands we are cut off from the outside world, half a mile up or down, the road is under water.

The K7 developed white spots, like condensation, under the screen. I tried to get a picture of one but my touch screen phone failed bigtime! The screen was almost covered totally in a milky white colour. I headed home. They had gone when I got in. I went out again. They got worse, even under the top plate screen this time. It then failed to auto focus. The shots looked milky from what I could see on the lcd but I put this down to the milky screen I now had. They where foggy. I got home and the milky had gone. I took the WR lens off and the mirror was full of condensation as was the back of the lens.

Am I alone with this?

Sounds like a severe case of condensation within the camera, buy multiple bags of silica gel place these with the camera inside a sealed plastic bag and leave for a day or two and see what happens.

Get the battery out, all the ports open, and camera into a warm dry airing cupboard. If you can place some hydrophilic substance such as silica gel, rice even, near the camera, so much the better. Leave it alone until you're sure it's dry before attempting to use it again.

Any idea how the water got in? Rain ought to run off, so was it sat in a soaking wet bag perhaps?

Or maybe some water got into the lens when zooming - I'm pretty sure some moisture gets past the seals, possibly enough to cause steaming up.

It was in my hand all the time. When not being used it was held close and out of direct rain as best I could. I also had a towel with me and gave it a good wipe when ever I found shelter.

Was the lens WR? If not, the mount may have let in water.

This is a few hours later. Its still taking foggy images. The White I'm on about is now only visible around the outer edge of the screen

I would be leaving the camera a lot longer than a few hours before using it.

Using a battery in a damp closed environment in just asking for trouble.

Just picked it up and had a look see. The screen is now stained around the milky edge

How is it looking now?

The whole screen was fogged over this morning, it's just about clear of foggin' now. But there is massive staining on the screen. Gunna have to ring Srs on monday and see what they say It's only just come back from them after a repair for dodgy e-dial

I'd call that a clue to why it leaked?

And they forgot to put a seal back, I guess.

It's what I'm thinking I'm afraid.
