Pentax cameras can be set to focus priority or release priority, don't know if that would help?
Best regards, John

As always, my grateful appreciation to you all for your assistance.

Walt, I'm afraid I couldn't really work out the French in your link and as I am not pc literate, I've left well alone with the Google interpreter.

Mike-P, I must admit, the 70D is my first choice but it is financially beyond me. I could get the camera body but would not have any lenses.

johnriley, I'm going to look into the focus priority/release priority in the K5II manual right now. I'm not ready to give up on the K5II just yet.

With reference to the af tests, this is what they say:
"Fnac lab was the first to having a measuring bench capable of simulating the displacement a subject at any speed from 0 to 300 km / hour, and anyone any distance. We programmed for two tests:
the first measurement the path a child trotting at 5 km / hour is triggered when it is 5 meters from the unit. The focal length is equivalent to 80 mm 24 x 36, well suited to this type photo. The second is triggered at 50 m from the subject moving at 50 km / hour, equivalent focal length 200 mm.
Measures burst position to obtain the distance to the first photo, but also how the unit is able to take, and where, and also how much are clear, what we symbolized by a color code in the graphical output of each device.

Green is good
Orange not very good
red blur"

Then this is the af info for the cameras you mentioned

So basically it is showing you how fast it can lock on to the child in the first line and how fast it locks on to the car and how many are good and how often it can take a good photo.
I don't know if this will help you in anyway to make your decision but the more info you have the better decision you can make? Besides it was fun to try and cut and paste this stuff in if it works!

Thanks for that, Walt. It looks like they are all much of a muchness. I am thinking that I wouldn't notice the difference if I used all three cameras. I am certainly not anywhere near being good enough to tell the difference.

johnriley. Looked up the focus priority/focus release. To avoid typing it all out, here is where to find it, if anyone might like to know. K5II manual, menu 3, items 15 and 16. I quite like the idea of being able to lock on before I take the shot.

My choice is strictly between the Canon 700D and the Pentax K5II. The final decision will totally depend upon the total price of the two cameras plus any lenses. Thank you all.
