K-5 Over-Exposure with flash

Hi Matt,
I have just tried this again and from a distance of around 2 metres the problem in not noticable.
Is this still an inherent problem with the K5 though considering that my GX20 didn't do this?

The K5 flash is much more sensible overall than the K20 and before. 77 segment metering and improved algorithms give generally better results. However, there will always be situations where you can make it "go wrong" - that was the same on the K20. It's just that the situations are different.
As I said before, flash has finite limits (and always will). A bit of knowledge can drastically improve your level of control and success for all flash systems

I've had ten minutes to play around
My answer: it's a combination of being too close, and the K5 'knowing' that the flash is bounced and is compensating for a ceiling bounce (which there isn't). Under this circumstance, it doesn't matter too much about ISO and aperture - the camera is making an assumption about the bounce distance and doesn't know that a substantial part of the flash energy is direct (because it's only at 45 degrees).
Once you get beyond the minimum flash distance then there's no difference between direct and 45 degree.
For me, it seems to be fine beyond about 1.5m distance.
