K-5 - Writing rubbing off buttons

I was just wondering if any / all of the K-5 owners out there have had problems with the writing rubbing off the buttons? I've only had my K-5 about 6 weeks and already most of the writing has disappeared on the 'ISO' button, but not off any of the others.

I haven't had any similar issues on my K-m or K-x.

Had mine since December 2010 (a replacement for a stained one) and used it regularly since - no problem with disappearing writing on mine.

Had the green and red paint come off of the mode dial on a K-7 pretty easily, actually looked better for it!

+1 to K7

Had my K5 since October and writing is fine. Although my K5 is generally on auto ISO and I use either TAV or AV and let the camera do the rest so the button doesn't get used that much.

My K5 writing is still pristine too, although I would estimate the ISO button has probably only been used about 50 times.

My K5 buttons are all 'pristine' and as for the ISO button I do use this regularly without the 'paint' rubbing off.

This happened to my GX20, it was fine for 2 years then when I took it somewhere humid it all rubbed off the buttons to the left of the screen within a couple of days.

Maybe the Ph of your sweat is acting like a solvent? I live in the wet tropics (hot and humid), the screen-printed symbols and letters haven't budged on my 7 year old *istDS or my 2.5 yr old K7.

The live-view button on my K-r has rubbed off a fair bit. I've had it for about 10 months or something now. Funny thing is I rarely ever use live-view.

Had my K5 since last August 2011, all button legends ok, as is my K10, purchased 2007.

Take care.

Hi All, thanks for your feedback on this one. The funny thing is that the ISO button is not one of the most used on my K-5, although I do change it quite often. Nothing has rubbed off any other buttons even though some get used a lot more (like the back AF button for example). Also, nothing has ever rubbed off any buttons on my K-x, so I doubt if this is the PH of my sweat that is causing this to happen.

Could the rubbing be caused by the camera bag lining?
Best regards, John

Hi John, thanks for the suggestion but I think this is unlikely as it has not affected any of the other buttons. I don't think the lining rubs on the ISO button any more than it does on the others. It's possible that I have accidentally caught the button on something abrasive, but I don't remember doing so.

The only reason I posted was to find out if this is a common issue, which it doesn't appear to be. Thanks for your help.

I'm wondering if some foreign substance like insect repellent, hand cleaner, or some such could be responsible.
